Are you a neurodivergent woman who feels like you’re living in a world that wasn’t made for you? The parts about yourself that you love—your interest in new hobbies, your tendency to daydream—make you feel like you don’t quite belong. You often feel bored, distracted, and disconnected from others, often analyzing social situations to try and pinpoint where you went wrong. You spend so much time masking your ADHD or autism that you’re not entirely sure who you really are anymore. You want to find a way to go through life that doesn’t force you to change, but instead celebrates the real, authentic version of you.

Does it feel like a vague, lonely experience that is difficult to describe --let alone understand--even though you are experiencing this "internal discomfort" of inexpressible feelings and moods? Perhaps, you fit the general description of the "average, well-adjusted" adult; however, on the inside, it feels as if you are emotionally or mentally "stuck" somewhere in your past? If this resonates with you, please know that there is hope and that this "internal discomfort" stems from a very valid inner emotional space.

Kids and teenagers encounter new challenges every day. School, sports, activities, and family dynamics can lead to anxiety, stress, and even depression. They may feel overwhelmed and struggle to talk about what is going on. They may be scared, feel embarrassed, or feel unsure of who to talk about what they are feeling. You may have noticed changes in their behavior or mood as a result. I work with kids, teenagers, and families to identify and gain understanding of what has led to their struggles and collaboratively work on how to move forward. I bring a different energy to therapy.

If you are a couple looking for help, or if you are an adult struggling with ADHD, then I can help. I work with couples to help them move from feeling unloved, unimportant, lonely, and unheard to connecting and feeling loved, wanted, and heard. I help those with ADHD identify what causes stress and keeps them stuck. Then we work together to find ways to move forward and to address symptoms that get in the way of success and accomplishment. I work with premarital couples to help them identify potential problems and to gain skills to have strong, connected marriages. I am a certified facilitator of the Prepare/Enrich Program.

Life is complicated. It's full of twists and turns and sometimes we lose our way. My passion is to support you along this path and honor your courage to start a process of self-discovery. I can assist you in emerging from a life perspective where you feel stuck into an understanding of your choices that will help you heal, explore emotional patterns, and have more fulfilling relationships. My life experiences have taught me a lesson: that it's hard to be human and as such, my clients will always deserve all my empathy and attention.

If you’ve been struggling to cope with the upheavals of life, perhaps my approach to therapy would be helpful for you. If you want to experiment with healthier ways of thinking, feeling and being, I can help. According to Brene Brown, we cannot be more connected to others than we are to ourselves, and I have personally come from a place where I was completely dissociated from my own emotions, even after marriage and kids. With the information I learned on my journey to wholeness, I am able to help my clients explore ways to heal their heartache, and connect with themselves and others to find happiness and fulfillment.

We all have a story to tell. We are made of thousands of them– from the haiku to the novel. Whether you feel like you’re spinning in circles or out of ideas, therapy can offer a fresh perspective through a clear lens. It can help wipe the fog off your glasses with the help of an objective outlook. You may feel like you are seeing Signs. Or hearing Sirens. Maybe from a direct Trauma. Or things are manifesting subtly throughout the fabric of your relationships. Whatever it is, you don't need to manage Your Story alone. You are worth it.

Do you have symptoms that "make no sense," or "come out of the blue?" Are you having trouble understanding why you feel the way you do? I specialize in helping people make sense of experiences that are painful, confusing, or "illogical." I start with the assumption that all feelings are messages to you, from you, about you. Together, we will work to understand these messages, using them to guide the process of change.

I value and appreciate the courage it takes to open up and talk about stress in your life, relationship difficulties, and regrets. It's important to be able to talk to someone who is nonjudgmental. I value the therapeutic relationship and I believe it is important to find a good match between client and therapist.

As an experienced therapist, I approach each client as an individual, with unique stories, experiences, and struggles; it is my intention to help each person develop a deeper and more postive understanding of themselves, and hopefully the world around them, including their relationships and activities; I believe we are all given gifts and abilties and my goal ultimately as a therapist is to assist in others discovery and developing the qualites that make them unique and can lead to a satisfactory and meaningful existence. I believe in learning about clients in a non-judgemental and person centered manner.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
