Sometimes life just feels like too much. Maybe anxiety, stress, or self-doubt have become constant companions. Relationships might feel complicated, or you’re feeling stuck trying to figure out what comes next. Whatever brought you here, know this: you don’t have to carry it alone.

Ideally, I work with adults struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders or relationship problems. I always strive to support developing stronger interpersonal social rhythms, and development of effective coping skills; using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Based Therapy. Clients who are able to identify strengths that help them in their recovery, and deficits in their recovery can begin working with myself in setting goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound.

Life these days can feel like you are on a roller coaster that doesn’t stop. This can lead to having very intense emotions, ones that feel overwhelming and hopeless. Maybe you are feeling extreme loneliness? Feeling so stressed that it’s hard to focus, or you just don’t feel like doing much of anything lately. Intense negative feelings can affect your physical health your relationships, sleep, and job or school performance. For some, anxiety or sadness can lead to outbursts of anger or feelings of worthlessness inside. I tend to pull skill building from ACT, CBT, and Narrative therapies.
I’m a white, queer, nonbinary/trans human and therapist. From my own lived experiences, and in working with clients, I have seen how difficult it can be to navigate a world that expects you to bend to fit. I primarily provide relationship counseling and individual counseling to clients exploring and navigating: polyamory, non-monogamy, kink, gender identity, sexuality, intimacy and relationship concerns. Some of the most common things I hear from people seeking support involve life transitions within relationships (having children, identities shifting), communication challenges, sexual concerns, and rebuilding trust after infidelity

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
