Give me a call! Let's see if I am the person that could help you put some words to your experiences or even challenge you face the fears that hold you from increasing your wellbeing.
I work collaboratively. Together our first task is to identify clearly what are the problems which bring you to me and to make sure that I understand them correctly. Then we decide on which methods would be best for you. I offer short term cognitive behavioral, EMDR, solution-focused approaches including mindfulness methods. My goal is to help you become your own therapist. I want you to learn to deal with yourself better so you can cope successfully with feelings of anxiety or depression, increase your wellbeing, and, have the life you want.

Are you in emotional pain and ready for a change? Are anxiety , depression, self-defeating behavior or relationship issues standing between you and your happiness or personal goals? My aim is to help you begin healing as quickly as possible, even when the issues are long-standing. As a therapist, I am actively engaged in the process and collaborate to help you remove barriers and learn to use your innate capacities for growth. Together, we will explore the present and seek out transformational processes, rather than focus on the past or simply relive old wounds as a more traditional approach might.

I work with individuals at all stages of life struggling with anxiety , OCD, and related challenges. Anxiety comes in many “flavors” and looks different on everyone. As a former teacher, I am especially passionate about working with children and adolescents. Parents often report feeling heartbroken and frustrated as they try to figure out ways to help their child. I work with parents to strengthen their relationship with their child while also going beyond temporary fixes to address core issues. I also have a special interest in working with young adults struggling with stress and anxiety .

I do problem solving; figuring out with you what is the nature of the problem which brings you to me and what can we do about it. Mostly I treat anxiety and depression. Mostly, too, I use cognitive and behavioral therapies, sometimes EMDR, and sometimes whatever is needed. I treat you the way I want to be treated. If you want someone fully plugged electronically, that's not me. I have been a psychologist since 1975, in practice since 1987 and taught psychotherapy. Recently I'm also exploring the connections between food and mood.

I specialize in working with individuals with mood & anxiety disorders, such as depression, bipolar, generalized anxiety and panic disorders.
My name is Dr. Jenna Mercadante. When working with individuals seeking treatment, I take a person-centered, holistic approach, focusing on the clients particular needs, preferences, and strengths and incorporating those into a practical & collaborative treatment plan. I see individuals as more than their psychiatric diagnosis, and thus, I seek to encourage personal growth & recovery (as opposed to only symptom reduction). In terms of treatment, I take a cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach while incorporating mindfulness techniques. Mindfulness is simply intentional focusing, non-judgmentally, in the present moment.

I have specialized training in mindfulness meditation, treating both substance-based and behavioral addictions, recovery from childhood and adult trauma experiences, anxiety and depressive disorders, bereavement, spiritual crises, and other life transitions.
Fulfilling our potential is a lifelong journey of becoming more at peace with ourselves, deepening the intimacy in our relationships, being more authentically human, and feeling more alive each day. Along the way, certain challenges arise to cause us distress or confusion. Such moments can make us feel held back, afraid, or unsure of where to go from here. But these moments can also be the points of growth and healing from which we renew ourselves in ways we did not think possible.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
