I have been working in the field of human and social services for over 20 years with children, adolescents, and adults providing individual, group, and family counseling.
Everyday life often brings about many joys but also presents us with many obstacles, challenges, and disappointments that sometimes feel unbearable and lead us feeling overwhelmed, sad, and hopeless. The way we think and process these events lead to how we feel about ourselves in relation to the world. I use a cognitive behavioral approach to treat disorders related to anxiety, depression, grief, anger, obsessions, and compulsions. I assist individuals with developing the tools and skills necessary to make cognitive and behavioral changes that can open doors of opportunity for change, growth and personal fulfillment.

In addition to my work with couples for the past 9 years I have 27 years of experience working with drug and alcohol clients and their families, and the many problems that arise in family systems, including substance abuse, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
I am a compassionate, person-centered therapist specializing in Emotion Focused Couple's Therapy (EFT), a highly effective approach helping couples achieve more trust, safety, security and closeness in their relationship. It is a very affirming model, with an active therapist guiding you and your partner as you learn new ways of relating to one another. I also use it for my clients in individual therapy. I am certified in alcohol and drug addiction.

I am trained in marriage and family therapy and my practice focuses primarily on couples.
Do you feel dysregulated in your relationship? Maybe you find yourself incessantly pursuing your partner, only to find that they become more distant. Or maybe you feel frustrated that you can’t make your partner happy and you don’t see how to get back to the good feelings you once shared. Has infidelity occurred? These are common patterns and I can help. Using Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-backed method proven to help couples, I will deescalate the conflict and show you how to attune to each other again. Your relationship can be the source of comfort and closeness that you long for.

I am a huge fan of using parts work by bringing in components of Internal Family Systems to gain a deeper understand of what your feelings are trying to protect you from.
When we were young, some of us learned not to show our emotions, cry, or talk about our problems. But the truth is that we are vulnerable, we have feelings, and we are human. If you are here, you are probably overthinking about your past or present, undergoing major life transitions, experiencing relationship hardships, or feeling sad and hopeless. Sometimes life can be chaotic, and it can be difficult not to receive support and validation from the people around us.

Unfortunately, I am unable to work with Medicare, Geisinger Family, Geisinger Gold, and Medical Assistance programs.
Do you struggle with feelings that affect your relationships? Do you put your needs at the bottom of your to-do list? Now more than ever, people are feeling overwhelmed while trying to find their place in the world. Ignoring your needs and giving too much of yourself can lead to long-term issues for the mind and body. Therapy is a perfect way to learn more about yourself and take control of your life. I specialize in working with adults who are motivated and ready to learn more about themselves. Are you a caregiver for someone with a chronic illness or dementia? I have vast experience helping caregivers cope with life's challenges.

My mission as a therapist is to remind you that you are safe, and to help you receive the support you may need outside of the one you may currently have from friends, family members, and loved ones.
The first step in finding a therapist is to determine what you are seeking to achieve. You are reading this and considering your next steps. I commend you on taking them and am here to discuss your goals, and to partner with you to achieve them.

I work with clients who have been impacted by a family member's substance use or addiction, and who may be struggling with co-dependent feelings/behaviors.
Life can take a very unexpected turn, sometimes good and sometimes bad. You may find that life is sunshine and rainbows… then suddenly it begins to rain, and when it rains it pours. Perhaps you have felt as though your life has been full of constant thunderstorms. As your therapist, I won’t give you an umbrella, but I will stand in the rain with you. I have a passion for helping people navigate life's challenges. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or just looking for someone to talk to who can offer fresh perspectives, I’m here for you.

Conflict resolution amongst family members/couples is vital for these relationships to thrive and can sometimes be easier to achieve with an outside perspective.
I am a compassionate Licensed Professional Counselor that takes a solution-focused, person-centered approach to helping clients reach their goals and overcome life obstacles. I have experience with treating a multitude of issues but I specialize in addiction, relationships, mood disorders and anxiety. Mental health is not a one size fits all concept so my approach will always be individualized and ever-changing since what worked before doesn't always work now. My goal is to create a non-judgmental environment and a trusting relationship with each client to help empower them to work towards growth in all aspects of life.

Interests include child/adolescent issues, particularly with teens and preteens utilizing structural family therapy.
With over 25 years of experience in this field, I am unique and eclectic in my approach. I particularly enjoy working with clients who have been seen as "difficult" by others or who have been dissatisfied with counseling in the past. I recognize the hard work that goes into bringing about change, but still feel the overall experience in counseling should be enjoyable. I am passionate about my work and try to make myself as accessible as possible. I welcome the opportunity to discuss your issues with you in a totally free/phone consultation.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
