Raising a child can be an incredible experience for parents. However, parents often experience unforeseen challenges along their journey. Sometimes bringing on a therapist as a teammate can be helpful for families who are struggling to navigate these challenges. For families with neurodivergent children, building a team can be even more important. Let me be that teammate to help your child learn to regulate their emotions, communicate more effectively, and build stronger connections with peers. Together we can also work to improve family dynamics and increase self-esteem.

Life can be overwhelming at times. There are many things pulling at us from all directions - family, children, work, other people - that we lose ourselves in the process. Are you trying to find out who you are and what your purpose is? Have you been trying to please others and neglecting yourself? These can contribute to a suffering that comes out as anxiety, depression, anger, addiction, low self-esteem, or just a general dissatisfaction with life. I believe we are meant to find meaning for our lives, fulfillment in what we do and happiness in our relationships. I can help you discover this person that you are meant to be.

Do you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or caught in patterns that do not seem to change? Emotions may feel too big, relationships strained, or past therapy may not have helped as you hoped. Many people seek therapy knowing something is not working, but they feel unsure how to move forward or help one another. I work with individuals and families to understand the emotional and relational patterns shaping current struggles, including supporting parents who feel unsure how to help a child. Over time, clients often experience greater emotional flexibility, clearer self-understanding, and more satisfying ways of relating to others.

The psychotherapy I do is depth-oriented, offered in a safe and peaceful setting, where we can build your sense of inner peace. We will uncover your family legacy, as well as the maladaptive patterns you are living that underlie your suffering. Within that context, we will practice awareness of the present moment and unhook you from the influences of the past. We can work to improve your relationships, clarify your life goals and help you find a sense of ease and confidence in yourself. If you are depressed and/or anxious, we will find the ways to release you from emotional pain and move toward personal fulfillment.

You may be used to being the person who manages—work, responsibilities, relationships, and the expectations you place on yourself. But lately, something may feel harder to carry. You might feel overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself or others, or simply aware that something in your life isn't as fulfilling as you want it to be. You may understand yourself quite well and still feel stuck. I work with adults who want a space to slow down, understand themselves in a deeper way, and create meaningful change.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
When does a teenager need to see a therapist?
Exploration and existential struggle is a normal part of adolescence, but if your teenager’s emotions or behaviors change so as to disrupt their ability to function academically or socially, you may want to consult a therapist. For example, if a teen’s grades in school drop suddenly or if they begin isolating from their friends and only spending time online, a parent may want to consider therapy.

What can an adolescent therapist help with?
Adolescence is a tumultuous time, and a therapist can help with the challenges that arise, whether they relate to emotions, academics, disruptive behaviors, self-esteem, friendships, family dynamics, sexual or gender identity, or alcohol and drug use. A therapist can help teenagers unpack their emotions, understand their experiences, and develop coping skills.

What therapy types are suitable for teenagers?
Teenagers may especially benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy (which identifies unhealthy thought patterns to change emotions and behaviors), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), which teaches emotion regulation and distress tolerance, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), which teaches emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility, and interpersonal therapy, which targets interpersonal difficulties. Additionally, adolescent problems may involve family members; family therapy to improve family dynamics and communication is helpful in those cases.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
