My past experience in family based therapy has helped me adapt to the needs of my clients and the wide range of challenges they have faced. In my time in family based I worked with people diagnosed with autism, depression, anxiety, intellectual disability, personality disorders, mood disorders, and many others. I believe in meeting each client where they are at and approaching them in a more person-to-person fashion than therapist-to-client. Each person's story is unique and they are the experts on their own lives which allows me to approach their challenges with curiosity and a desire to learn about them and support where needed.

Maybe you are navigating adult life challenges like anxiety, burnout, or difficult transitions, lacking motivation and stuck in frustrating patterns; or facing life changes, relationship struggles, and feeling worn down and not sure where to go. You may be spinning your wheels, scrolling and lacking organization, feeling out of touch with your true self. As a couple, you may be fighting all the time, living like roommates, and/or dealing with betrayal or emotional distance, never feeling understood. It doesn't have to stay this way.

The willingness to engage in therapy is a great start. If that willingness can grow and you can apply the effort successful outcomes require, then you are likely closer to the life you want (and deserve) than it may seem to you right now. Yes, successful therapeutic outcomes will likely require you to experience uncomfortability. But the reward for learning to move through the discomfort is a life consistent with what you really want and who you really are. And you will not be on the journey alone, I will be there to support and guide you.

Most of us long for a consistent life: Living our lives where the values we hold as important, even sacred, are lived out daily in our life and relationships. For some people who hold religious faith dear, it can be important to to live and experience life in a manner that holds are religious values as a filter for living. Sometimes, though, life circumstances or emotional stress can impede creating this balance. The life we lead is not the life we desire to lead. It can be difficult to find a therapist, a counselor, who is competent in both realms - therapy and faith. That’s where I can be of help.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
