I've been a clinical psychologist for 34 years, giving clients the support and strategies they need to deal with anxiety, depression, negative self-esteem, stress management, organizational skills, motivation, trauma and tragedy, and grief and loss. I have had the best results by using COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT), and Mindfulness Meditation. I also use HYPNOSIS if and when appropriate. I also offer Live, Online VIDEO COUNSELING, which is more convenient for many clients, and very helpful to clients for whom distance and transportation are obstacles to getting the help they want and need.

Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time, or returning after a break, we can all benefit from taking time to discuss not what is wrong with us, but what is happening around us, and how it is impacting our relationship with ourselves or others in our lives. We all deserve an outlet, a place to be heard, to be understood, and to grow. It is my goal to provide this outlet for you, while also creating a safe and warm environment.

Something is making it harder to show up as yourself. Maybe anxiety has
become background noise, following you through meetings and quiet moments
that should feel restful. Maybe you're still carrying something you've never
quite put down. Or life shifted in a direction you didn't choose, a relationship
strained, a body not cooperating, a grief that won't follow any schedule. I'm
Melissa, an LCSW working with children, teens, adults, and families across
Pennsylvania since 2013. I've worked in community mental health, schools, and
hospital settings. My work is practical, warm, and built around you.

Are you navigating the impact of trauma or chronic stress, or the emotional weight of a high‑pressure environment? You might notice yourself feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer feel like you. Are you wanting more clarity, relief, or a way to reconnect with who you are beneath everything you’ve had to carry?
In our work together, I’ll invite you to explore what feels heavy, confusing, or unresolved at your own pace. We might use EMDR, trauma‑informed approaches, or mind‑body strategies to help you process what’s been lingering beneath the surface.

I work with adolescents and adults across the lifespan who are navigating major life transitions, coping with grief and loss, or feeling stuck in patterns that block a sense of purpose, connection, or fulfillment. In therapy, clients reflect on their values and goals within the context of their life journey, helping to find meaning through struggles and to live with greater intention and wellness.

Life is hard. Anxiety, depression, stress and trauma touch just about everyone at some point. I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 30 years of experience, and my focus is on helping people expand their capacity to adapt to what life is throwing at them. Think of a surfer on the ocean. You have no control over the waves, but with balance and constant adjustment, you can ride them without getting hurt.
Some people come to me carrying an experience they can't quite put down — including a psychedelic experience, whether at a retreat, in a licensed program, or on their own. There's often nowhere else to take that.

I am a pediatric psychologist who works with children, teens, young adults, and families facing complex challenges, including medical illness, grief, trauma, developmental concerns, and school-related needs.
Some children and families are dealing with more than one thing at a time. It may be a medical diagnosis alongside school struggles. Grief layered on top of anxiety. Developmental concerns in the middle of a family transition. Or a child who is trying to manage something hard while the adults around them are doing the same. Families usually find their way to me when something feels more layered than expected.

How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.
What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.
How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
