My areas of speciality are treating anxiety , depression, LGBTQ+ issues, trauma, relationship difficulties, and stress from major life transitions.
Counseling is a space where you can explore, process, heal and grow. By being vulnerable we can allow ourselves the space to reflect on who we are now and where we have come from. I believe that we deserve a space where we can feel safe, comfortable and free from judgement. In this space, we can take out some of the boxes that are stored away and discover how we can let go of what no longer serves us while creating new ways of being and relating to ourselves, others, and the world around us .

Being human means that life is going to be difficult sometimes. We may need to explore different avenues for change. Current struggles may be due to a major life transition like a job loss, becoming a parent, experiencing empty nest, a death in the family, or a new relationship, or they may be due to current unhealthy dynamics in existing relationships. Sometimes nothing has happened and we just get "stuck in a rut" and can't seem to make any positive changes that would enable us to go in a different direction. Depression and anxiety can be our mind and body's way of telling us that it is time for change.

I have worked with a wide range of mental health concerns connected to trauma, including but not limited to: anxiety , depression, addiction, and relational issues.
I view psychotherapy as the ultimate practice of self-care. Sessions are a time to explore your inner self, your outer relationships, and evaluate how your past and present influence your future. I approach treatment though an existential, intersectional feminist, and person-centered lens – this means I consider gender, race, class, sexuality, belief, biology, ability, physicality, and life experiences during our work together.

I've been a clinical psychologist for 34 years, giving clients the support and strategies they need to deal with anxiety , depression, negative self-esteem, stress management, organizational skills, motivation, trauma and tragedy, and grief and loss. I have had the best results by using COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT), and Mindfulness Meditation. I also use HYPNOSIS if and when appropriate. I also offer Live, Online VIDEO COUNSELING, which is more convenient for many clients, and very helpful to clients for whom distance and transportation are obstacles to getting the help they want and need.

I specialize in working with individuals who are coping with life and on maternal mental health issues. I have great experience with moms, families of children with special needs, anxiety , depression, and family relationships. The 'right treatment' is not the same for everyone and I work to understand and integrate the physical and mental health factors that impact your situation. I am not pretentious or judgmental. I am practical and personable. My success comes from my understanding and willingness to treat what you need first, and utilize all the expertise available to help you and your family function the way you want.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
