I believe that all individuals are able to change but get stuck in patterns that do not serve them well due to daily stress. Changing these patterns is accomplished through interactive conversations and identifying why these patterns are not useful before creating new useful patterns. I work with couples on a variety of issues such as trust and betrayal, affairs, intimacy, grief, divorce, communication, addictions, and any of the myriad of relationship issues all couples experience. In addition, I work with children, youth and their families on a variety of relationship issues dealing with conflict, communication, parenting , defiance, adoption and respect.

Thriving in families today is truly challenging, particularly in today's "Covid World." Family stress also tends to intensify during those sensitive periods of transition, especially where children are affected. My practice specializes in assisting parents navigate the complexities of divorce, co- parenting , re-marriage, and the creation of new stepfamilies. I also help families heal from estrangement, whether it is from a sibling or parent . While working with recently-divorced parents, I feel it is important to take a child-centered focus, where children are often caught in the middle of these adult battlegrounds.

Hello! My name is Gregg and I help people through some of the tough times in their lives. I believe that we adjust to new experiences using the tools we already possess and a desire to thrive in new surroundings, but sometimes this striving to survive can cause us emotional and behavioral difficulties. I provide supportive guidance through these situations using tools from cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative, and existential therapies, from the psychodynamic approach.

As a Harvard trained psychologist, I work to use my education, experience, and passion for my profession to create a comfortable, caring enviroment for every individual I see. My initial focus is on understanding the unique ways in which each person thinks and feels about themselves and their life experiences. I then work with individuals to discover and change aspects of their thinking that have become ineffective; thoughts that lead to debilitating negative emotions or destructive behaviors. In every session I work to foster the open dialog and mutual respect needed to ensure a productive therapeutic relationship.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
