Our lives are defined by our relationships. However, maintaining and nourishing these relationships can be a challenge. My goal as a therapist is to help families, individuals, and couples seeking to rejuvenate and rebuild relationships at all stages, whether you're experiencing marital difficulties, tensions with parenting, or managing relationships with elderly parents or children who have moved out of the house. In therapy sessions, I use a lighthearted touch and maintain a calm, safe environment that not only makes difficult moments tolerable but also encourages you to be reflective and self-aware.

I am accepting clients ranging from fourteen years of age and older. I work with individuals, families, and couples. Although I have experience treating an eclectic range of concerns, ideally, my clients may be facing symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and PTSD. I have great expertise in treating dually-diagnosed clients, substance misuse, and mental health. The stress and hardships that come with these issues are often too much to handle on your own; please let me help.

As a counselor, I have always been aware of the courage and openness a client needs to be able to seek support and engage in counseling services. I also understand how difficult it is to make therapeutic changes in one's life. I am humbled to be privileged to learn about a client's intimate struggles, and I take the depth of that relationship of respect, privacy, boundaries, and expectations very seriously. My ideal client is anyone open to counseling, receiving feedback, and willing to work together on developing action steps towards change and personal growth.

I enjoy working with clients who want to get to the root of their struggles. These clients would like to gain insight into their symptoms, something difficult that has happened to them or to explore cycles and patterns that aren’t serving them. The clients I see often have attended therapy in the past. The clients I see also often present with attachment-based traumas, symptoms of post-traumatic stress, and difficulties in their personal and work relationships.

My ideal client aims to engage in an active partnership to build self-awareness and take action to make a change. I will give you feedback and challenge you, which is not everyone’s cup of tea! I work best with those suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, overwhelm, trauma, or emotional flooding. Many of my clients report that our work helped them shift from survival mode to a sense of thriving. I suggest homework; your progress is based on your willingness to practice. The ideal client for my strengths is someone who wants to learn and shift by discovering tangible skills and techniques they can use in their own lives.

At each moment we are in a process of evolving from whom we have been to who we are becoming. I work using an experiential, dialogical and integrative approach to self-discovery and personal growth. Through compassionate understanding, confirmation of each persons' uniqueness, attention to present-moment experience and heightened awareness, we can complete what is unfinished from the past, giving way to our emerging creative selves. Understanding how processes can function to sustain disruptive patterns, as well as challenge and support the possibilities for creative problem-solving, can lead to deliberate actions that transform relationships between people, and between people and organizations.

I find great satisfaction in working with families, couples, and individuals, using elements of various therapy models such as Gestalt , Jung, EMDR and IFS.
I believe that we all have an instinct toward growth and healing, and my experience with clients continues to affirm that with good support, everyone has the innate capacity to change. I trust and respect clients by bringing my genuine curiosity, deep sense of acceptance, and keen intuition to what they share with me. Troubling events and traumas happen to all of us, but as we explore old beliefs and process through difficult emotions, it is possible to alter those ingrained habits that prevent growth, and move into a more free experience of yourself. I have an open, relaxed, interactive style based on a holistic perspective.

I completed a three year post-graduate certificate training program in Gestalt Therapy in Philadelphia, PA and a two year post graduate certificate program in Developmental Somatic Therapy in New York City.
I believe therapy is based on the relationship between the therapist and the client where the client is the expert on their own life. My goal is to provide a collaborative, non-judgmental space where clients can work to discover areas of their lives where they would like to change, grow, and gently uncover their true selves. Often, things arise in the therapeutic environment that are also occurring in clients' lives, and we can experiment together to find new ways of being in the world and in relationship. I am a queer, white accomplice, multiculturally responsive, alternative lifestyle friendly and fat positive.

Influenced by my ongoing training in Gestalt therapy at the Gestalt Training Institute of Philadelphia, as well as my background as a yoga teacher and mindfulness practitioner, I incorporate a somatic and holistic focus into my therapeutic work.
I recognize the strength and courage it takes to seek support, and I believe this is a sign of your resilience. My aim is to create a collaborative relationship with you that is supportive, compassionate, validating, and connected. One of my highest values as a therapist is to meet you where you are, and to work with you toward increasing emotional safety. I value a gentle, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive approach, and we will move at your pace. I specialize in working with highly sensitive people, codependency, childhood emotional neglect, trauma, anxiety, depression, shame, and challenging family relationships.

Certified in Advanced CBT, I completed post-graduate studies at the Gestalt Institute of Philadelphia in May of 2020.
Every person has an ability to overcome obstacles. I am here to provide what is needed to see you through that process. Whatever your challenges, we will move together carefully and consciously in an open, non-judgmental and supportive environment. The process of change can happen subtly and steadily or a realization can burst into a huge leap forward. As insight and strength grow, you will be naturally inspired to make concrete and positive change. After serving clients for more than two decades, I have seen evidence of our work in the confidence and successes of my clients.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
