Issues addressed in treatment may include, though aren't exclusively: divorce, blended
family
issues, decreased intimacy in relationships, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Our lives are defined by our relationships. However, maintaining and nourishing these relationships can be a challenge. My goal as a therapist is to help families, individuals, and couples seeking to rejuvenate and rebuild relationships at all stages, whether you're experiencing marital difficulties, tensions with parenting, or managing relationships with elderly parents or children who have moved out of the house. In therapy sessions, I use a lighthearted touch and maintain a calm, safe environment that not only makes difficult moments tolerable but also encourages you to be reflective and self-aware.

If you're looking here, you've decided it's time to figure out something--maybe a difficult relationship, a chronic health problem or a cancer diagnosis. Perhaps you've been through some hard experiences in the past that you want to understand so they don't interfere with your present life. Or maybe you struggle with anxiety or depression. I believe the therapy relationship is collaborative. Our therapy can help you more deeply understand your own feelings and behaviors so you can better cope and be fulfilled in your life and relationships.

My treatment approach is based largely on Cognitive-Behavioral, Relational, and
Family
Systems therapies.
I have worked with a variety of patient populations, including families, adolescents, young adults, and mid-life/older adults, dealing with various mental health concerns, but largely specializing in anxiety and mood disorders. I have extensive experience treating young adults, especially, having done clinical work in four different colleges in the Philadelphia area. I have also facilitated many young adult therapy groups over the years. Fundamentally, I believe that if people are able to learn to accept and like themselves and be less self-critical, many of their struggles with anxiety and depression will diminish significantly.

***All clients are remote.*** Anxiety and depression affect so many of us every day. Spiraling thoughts, racing heartbeat, inability to sleep, feeling withdrawn at social events--these are just a few examples of how our anxiety gets in the way of our enjoyment and ability to live our lives. Anxiety and depression also increase our stress level and may prevent us from having healthy interactions with coworkers, friends,
family
members. Think of it this way: if our mind has us focused on the past or the future, how can we enjoy our present relationships??

I provide intensive couples and
family therapy
using a variety of techniques to help individuals, couples and families recognize their impact on each other and collaboratively create sustainable healthy interactions and lifestyles.
I believe that all individuals are able to change but get stuck in patterns that do not serve them well due to daily stress. Changing these patterns is accomplished through interactive conversations and identifying why these patterns are not useful before creating new useful patterns. I work with couples on a variety of issues such as trust and betrayal, affairs, intimacy, grief, divorce, communication, addictions, and any of the myriad of relationship issues all couples experience. In addition, I work with children, youth and their families on a variety of relationship issues dealing with conflict, communication, parenting, defiance, adoption and respect.

With a background in psychodynamic,
family
systems and attachment theories, I believe we become who we are as a result of our experiences growing up in our families.
TELEHEALTH (audio/video) SESSIONS ARE AVAILABLE. Throughout our lives, we all experience challenges with sadness, worry and anger that can reach overwhelming levels. When the stress of these feelings negatively impacts daily functioning, relationships, work performance or physical health, it is time to learn what can be done differently. Through active listening, supporting, challenging and providing education about the interplay of thoughts, feelings and behaviors, I work collaboratively and non-judgmentally with my clients to understand themselves better to create a more satisfying life and stronger, more confident sense of self.

"Each of us is born with the potential to be the best version of ourselves. For most of us, along the way, life can get in the way. Whether it's substances, relationships, anxiety or negative thoughts; we lose our way. We find ourselves muddling through what is meant to be a satisfying and uplifting journey. If you want to discover how to get back to that inborn potential; therapy may be the answer. I won't have all the answers, no one knows you better than you! I will help you uncover the answers that are true for you."

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
