I have experience with children with developmental and intellectual disabilities and I led a
teen
support group for two years that provided a safe place for diverse populations to feel support and connection.
I’d love to help you find a new and better place to live in and live from. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I work well with couples, families, and teens. Everyone who comes to therapy is unique so I listen well to get to know each person and family situation well. My systems training will help you make better sense of how to communicate to those you love and care for. With a couple’s relationship, I’m amazed at how rich Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment based approach, is in helping people open up to healing and trust inside their relationship.

I hope to provide a safe and comfortable place that helps you to share and process through your story. My goal is to not just help you survive, but to thrive!

MAMFT
Over the years, it has been my privilege and honor to serve many different populations. Most recently, I have spent a lot of time working with marital and family issues as well as addictions of various kinds.
I also enjoy assisting clients with stage of life challenges like remarriage, adjustments after the birth of your first child,
teen
years, empty nest, or dealing with chronic illness.
Many of these issues are usually connected to stress and anxiety management; an area I have also worked with extensively. My experience and education are difficult to encapsulate into just a few areas.

Is there an anxious voice in your head that sometimes speaks at full volume? Do you feel alone, uncertain, or "less than"? Or maybe you feel like you just can't stay on top of your life. You procrastinate and only get things done by self-medicating with panic? You may have habits you don't feel good about... you overeat, shop too much, spend countless hours online or in front of tv, or get too much or too little sleep. You might feel stuck, frustrated, or like something is missing. Or maybe you are a parent who feels worried and unsure about how to help a child or
adolescent
who is struggling?

In my nearly 20 years as a psychologist it has become clear to me that entering into therapy takes courage. It takes courage to look at one's struggles and go near painful aspects of life. It takes courage to make changes; in the way we see ourselves, our relationships and our future. As a therapist, I see my role as not the agent of change, but as someone who 'walks with' the person who is courageously ready to change. I enjoy working at changes in individuals and couples as well as families.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
