I specialize in working with caregivers, those coping with serious illness, those experiencing
loss
and life transitions, and those with anxiety or burnout.
You spend so much energy taking care of others, it's hard to think about making time for yourself. It's hard to imagine a time when you had the energy to spend with your friends and family. You feel sad or angry sometimes, even lashing out at loved ones, and you're not sure why. Maybe work has started to feel like a chore, and you experience less compassion for co-workers and clients. You used to find joy in your work and in your relationships, but now you feel overwhelmed with the demands on your time. It's harder to connect with the parts of life that used to feel meaningful.

I also work with Perinatal Losses including Pregnancy and Fetal
Loss

Women have specific concerns and needs that can seem to change rapidly, such as mood and body image concerns during monthly cycles. Later on, Trying to Conceive (TTC), or the many emotions that come with Pregnancy, as well as Pregnancy losses and terminations, can be quite challenging and leave you feeling unsure who you can open up to without judgment and unsolicited advice. Birth Trauma, Postpartum Depression, and Anxiety can also feel quite scary and talking to a knowledgeable Therapist in Women's Emotional Health can help you feel validated in your thoughts and fears, reduce guilt, and help you see that you are doing your best!

Being a caregiver for a loved one who has a chronic or terminal illness can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. It also comes with stresses that can be hard for friends and family to understand. Being a person who needs help to manage day to day activities of living can also be hard to handle, even if the help is appreciated. Sudden life changes are difficult to navigate; such as
loss
of a loved one,
death
of a pet, or diagnosis of a debilitating disease. Even positive changes like retirement, downsizing, or relocation can be painful at times. Talking it through can help.

Stress, fear,
loss
, life transitions and/or migrating to a new country can influence the production of anxiety, depression, anger, insomnia, complicated
grief
, and behavioral concerns in an individual; they can also be underlining factors for a variety of relationship issues. This is not often readily at an individual's level of awareness and as such can take time to uncover. Meeting an individual where they are in life and the changing process is a very important step, as is providing a safe judgement free environment where one can explore the ins and outs of his/her/their symptoms/concerns, while working to build coping skills.

Couples come to therapy often feeling frustrated, defensive, hurt and angry. Love, attraction and shared life goals may have brought them together, but along the way to deeper emotional intimacy couples meet roadblocks. Growing self-awareness and curiosity about their partner helps them appreciate their differences as enriching rather than threatening. Partners realize that each of them has a role in cultivating the quality of their relationship. Partners learn to support each other's growth and expand their horizons together. Their relationship feels more alive and hopeful. Therapy nurtures the art of relationships for all of us.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
