My insight into the male experience provides many benefits for my clients, including the recognition of adult and
teen
stressors, how we think about anger (our cognitions) and we act out our anger (our behaviors).
Anger management is not about removing one's anger; anger management is learning to recognize and control our responses to life's anger causing stressors. Without the proper help, this may be easier said than done. If your primary concern is the need to discover how to manage your anger, please recognize there is a vast difference between general training and advanced certification in my area of expertise. I am an organizational psychologist and I have been certified to work with adults and teens on their anger management issues. New anger management classes now forming. Please check our webpage.

I believe that fit between therapist and client is one of the most important factors in counseling. My style is to adapt my approach to the client's personality and needs. Some people want or respond well to a lot of feedback, suggestions, and structured goals, while others need a good listener more than anything else. I strive to put the client first in developing the treatment plan. I have extensive experience in treating a broad range of issues and in psychological assessment. Feel free to call first to discuss your needs if you are not sure that I'm the right therapist for you.

To help others, I believe that three traits are essential: competence, caring, and integrity. I continuously hone my competence by updating my skills and keeping up with developments in my field. I believe therapy can improve quality of life and promote healing through exploration, acceptance and engagement. While at times it can be overwhelming, Life is full of positive and negative moments and after that, comes the rest of life. How these moments are perceived, directly impacts the way one manages and navigates them. This practice is here to help you get through when life happens.

I believe that therapy should be a safe and transforming atmosphere that just flows comfortably. I love helping individuals find their voice, set healthy boundaries and identify coping techniques to increase their self-worth/self-esteem. I work to empower clients in an individual or group setting to enhance and improve their overall well-being by customizing therapy to their specific needs. I do not believe therapy should be a “one-size-fits-all approach.” Every one processes differently, and it's important to acknowledge that and provide care accordingly.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
