I pride myself in tailoring my therapeutic approach to each client. My goal is to be as open as possible with my clients in continuing to look at why a specific treatment modality is being used. I also enjoy using humor as a way to build therapeutic rapport and as a tool for healing through self-empowerment.

Hello my name is Cheryl Foxworth. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and AAMFT Approved Supervisor in Pennsylvania. For over 20-years I have worked with families in distress. I believe that most often the negative experiences we have in childhood corrupts our true sense of being. These early childhood issues often results in a disconnect with our true self. How tragic this can be but there is hope. I would love to think that "What does not kill us will only make us stronger. " This is a quote from philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche that has become my personal mantra. We must learn how to live beyond our hurt....

Therapy should feel responsive to what you’re going through, whether it’s everyday stress or something that feels heavier and harder to manage alone. I create a space where teens and adults can feel heard, understood, and safe to show up as they are. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, identity questions, or emotional struggles and want more clarity and confidence. Together, we would explore patterns and build practical skills/tools for moving forward.

It's time to feel better. My passion for mental health and helping others has guided my work for over 20 years. I believe each person’s journey is unique, which is why I tailor therapy to your goals rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches—including psychodynamic theory, CBT, parts work (IFS), imagery, Imago, and more—to help you gain clarity and deeper self-understanding. Together, we’ll explore what’s happening in your life and take practical, meaningful steps toward real change.

I help professionals navigate stress and anxiety. You may appear successful on the outside yet feel anxious, depressed, unsettled, or stuck inside. Dating may feel discouraging, work stress constant, or relationships leave you second-guessing yourself. Therapy offers space to step back, think clearly, and make meaningful change. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help adults reduce anxiety and depression and understand how their thinking shapes confidence and relationships. From the first session, we identify what needs to shift and develop practical strategies to help you move forward with greater clarity and control.

I have studied and taught DBT skills for 10 + years and have been delighted to see clients progress and gain a sense of mastery over their emotions and lives through the use of DBT and other treatment modalities that I employ.

I feel that every client or couple processes and copes with trauma, adversity, & mental health differently. It is important that I build a strong, therapeutic rapport with clients in order to create a more comfortable environment for vulnerability. Through building a therapeutic relationship based on mutual empathy and rapport, healing & working through difficult issues can happen! I am very human. I am the type of therapist who will see you, hear you, and help you in all of your humanity - good, bad, & indifferent. You are safe & loved here, regardless of who you are, how you identify, where you come from. Come as you are!

Life can be overwhelming and draining. Especially when you are grieving the loss of a part of yourself or a loved one who has died. We grieve the loss of relationships, friendships, people, and experiences. Please know that grief has no time limit; you just need to learn how to live in a new way. Life will never be easy, but it may become easier. Traumatic experiences effect people in different ways throughout their lives. Now is the time to reach out if you suffered a trauma and are looking to process how that trauma may now be affecting you. Lastly, families go through changes and each transition requires a new set of skills.

Being a caregiver for a loved one who has a chronic or terminal illness can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. It also comes with stresses that can be hard for friends and family to understand. Being a person who needs help to manage day to day activities of living can also be hard to handle, even if the help is appreciated. Sudden life changes are difficult to navigate; such as loss of a loved one, death of a pet, or diagnosis of a debilitating disease. Even positive changes like retirement, downsizing, or relocation can be painful at times. Talking it through can help.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
