More Than Just Talk....... If you haven't been in psychotherapy before, you may not realize that the traditional approach to treatment is to educate the client about their conditions and teach them how to change their own feelings and behaviors. Although this approach can be very helpful, it is usually a long process that depends a great deal on the individual's courageous persistence. Moreover, a change in behavior and belief does not necessarily resolve the history of negative experiences fueling such things as depression and anxiety. These are some of the reasons I offer "More Than Just Talk".

Mindful Tides Therapy was formed to provide an atmosphere for our clients to individualize their goals. We recognized the decrease in quality client care through the “big box” therapy practices that are owned by those who are not clinicians themselves, and it was important for us to provide a safe space for clients to have input into their treatment plans. Our goal is to aid our clients in finding a secure, collaborative, compassionate, and ethical therapy environment. It is a priority for us to provide our team of therapists with the training and work/life balance they need to practice comfortably.

A psychodynamic perspective in session means I will often look back at your past to see how it could be impacting your present.
I have primarily worked with clients regarding life transitions/adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, self-harm, LGBTQ exploration, interpersonal conflicts, family dynamics, spiritual/faith/religious concerns or abuse, and boundary setting. I enjoy clients who are seeking to better understand themselves and growing their confidence in who they are. Only after we have insight and awareness can we try to make meaningful changes. I enjoy explorative, open-minded depth work that is holistic and fulfilling for the client. I am trauma-informed and use an eclectic approach with a psychodynamic foundation.

I work with people who have experienced trauma or abuse and want to heal from it. I have helped many people suffering from PTSD, dissociation, nightmares, flashbacks, avoidance, dissociation, anxiety, & depression. I strive to help in any way I can, so I use a mix of tools and approaches in my work. I openly share my responses and impressions because I believe I serve you better this way. If sharing my own experiences or learning will help you, I am inclined to do so. I am trained in psychodynamic and EMDR therapy, so these approaches are a big part of the work. I do both long and short term work. I'm LGBTQ+ allied.

I integrate several modalities including Psychodynamic Therapy, Body Oriented Psychotherapy, Mindfulness/Meditation, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Spiritual Counseling (no matter your religious/spiritual orientation).
I’m interested in working with clients who are in search of deep emotional, mental, and spiritual healing. You can expect our sessions together to consider your past, and to process the impact of those experiences on your present day life. Almost everyone is impacted by distressing or traumatic events that inevitably occur throughout a lifetime, so those experiences will be explored and processed, as well. Our work together will be a blended effort of focusing on what is important to you, and my curiosity and guidance throughout your process.

I employ a cognitive behavioral (CBT) approach while utilizing narrative, psychodynamic, and solution focused therapy to help my clients reach their goals.
I work to establish a supportive and non-judgemental space for clients to focus on healing and connection. I work to emphasize collaboration while recognizing the client as the expert of their own experience. I support my clients with active listening, affirmation, validation, and honesty. We will work together to build upon existing attributes and coping mechanisms and I will work to encourage self-compassion while developing new skills for the present and future. This may include working on setting healthy boundaries, improving communication skills, and/or identifying negative self-talk.

I utilize an integrative model, drawing from relational, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, EMDR, and attachment based approaches.
Many find themselves at a point in their lives where external support is necessary to navigate life's challenges. My clients seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some may come to therapy to deal with a specific struggle, such as anxiety or depression, while others initiate therapy during a difficult life transition. Even positive transitions, such as getting a new job or starting a new relationship can be stressful. Together, we will merge our resources to address these challenges in a safe environment by exploring patterns, processing events from the past, and creating plans for change in the future.

Not accepting new clients
My therapeutic approach is primarily grounded in evidence-based practice drawing from Psychodynamic Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with an emphasis on social justice and a multicultural framework.
Therapy offers us an opportunity to be seen and understood as we are in the present moment. Turning inward lets us examine and explore our values, needs, and relationships with others. I work from a collaborative, warm, and open approach to therapy, highlighting the therapeutic relationship to build self-awareness, meaning, and cognitive flexibility. I believe that building insight and awareness into what motivates our behaviors leads to long lasting change. My areas of specialization include those in STEM and other professionals, University students, relationship counseling, and Mindfulness based psychotherapy.

I see therapy as a way of deepening relationship to purpose, land, bodies, and each other. I help people build capacity so they can show up in more meaningful ways in their relationships and the world.  I draw upon body-based (somatic) and insight-based (psychodynamic) therapies to help open up places where people are stuck, uncover what is held in the body and psyche, explore troubled aspects of the self, and create new possibilities.

I can integrate other orientations, such as cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, psychodynamic, narrative, and EMDR.
I have years of experience working with clients struggling with grief, trauma, and depression. I am a member of ASERVIC, with many years of experience and extensive graduate study in religion and spirituality and can integrate values connected with a client's preferred religions and spiritual emphases into all therapeutic approaches. Clients facing life-transitions have greatly benefited from this focussed approach to wellness at every stage of life. I work well with adults of all ages. Older adults have often especially appreciated my counseling orientation. I am also fluent in Spanish and Italian.

I draw on psychodynamic (insight-oriented) and humanistic (including Gestalt and client-centered) approaches to offer individual psychotherapy for adults.
Accepting new patients. Are you handling too much stress with too little support, hurting from a relationship, or struggling with other painful life events? Talking to someone who listens sensitively and thinks deeply with you can get you on a path to feeling better. My approach to therapy is holistic and collaborative, with the aim of helping you deepen your self-understanding, increase your life satisfaction, and create meaningful change.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
