For some people, therapy is a scary word. There’s been a lot of stigma around it for a long time. But for others it is relief. It takes courage to begin therapy, whether it’s your first time or you’re returning after several years. Life transitions and events can sometimes lead to overwhelming feelings of stress and you need someone to help you navigate through these difficult times. I want my clients to find relief from what they are experiencing and give them an outlet to express themselves. Therapy is self-care, and I want clients to view it as such instead of something they “have to do”.

The family is the foundation upon which we develop our understanding of how to interact and form relationships with people. The family is where we develop our first understanding of how to deal with various emotions such as anger, love, happiness, and sadness. It is also where we learn to manage conflict. I believe in taking the strengths and values that already exist within a family and using them to enhance family relationships and Inspire its members to live a healthier and happier life.

For couples therapy, I approach sessions from an EFT (emotionally-focused therapy) perspective, which is rooted in attachment theory and focuses on dismantling the damaging cycles in which loving couples often find themselves stuck.
Relationships can be the greatest source of joy in people’s lives, but they also have the potential to cause us the most pain. The complex dynamics between romantic partners, parents and children, siblings, friends, and even colleagues can be incredibly challenging to navigate. I can help you to reclaim the joy in your relationships and learn how to nurture them to become even stronger. Your personal experiences have led you to develop the relationship patterns you have today, but I believe it is never too late to break unsatisfying cycles and create new, healthier ways of relating to the people you care about.

I hold a Licensed Professional Counselor and have completed advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals.
I see my role as an honor and privilege to be able to walk alongside each one of my clients in order to find hope, and healing. Healing requires a safe place to explore deeper emotions and thoughts that may arise. I recognize the importance of providing that secure and safe space to help clients feel comfortable enough to share their stories, struggles and pain. Being a second generation American, I want to bring cultural humility to my approach and seek to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to client’s specific needs.

I'm a sex therapist who combines the Gottman method, EFT, and biology to learn what the problem is and teach you your solution.
For individuals, I will help you gain the confidence you've been missing. Be it sexually or interpersonally, I know how to help. Living a life full of stress stinks. I will help you unpack and heal from your trauma, decrease your anxiety, connect to your body and wants, and teach you how to feel better about yourself and the choices you make.

Therapy involves looking at your emotions, thoughts, behaviors, in addition to the mind-body connection through a variety of techniques including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), positive psychology, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, emotional freedom technique ( EFT, aka "tapping"), and more.
Feeling stuck, lost, confused, frustrated, or unmotivated? You are not alone. We all need help sometimes, and it takes a lot of courage to take that first step and seek out that help. My passion for this work comes from my own personal struggles with mental health, so I understand how challenging it can be to start on the path to healing. I identify and work with those in the queer/trans/LGBTQIA+, kink/BDSM and poly/ENM/CNM communities.

If you or a member of your family is struggling with change, stress, and anxiety as we navigate through these challenging times, I am here to support you! I have worked with individuals and families for the past 20 years within the fields of education and psychology. My approach is an interactive and dynamic one and when working with couples I utilize an EFT model of treatment.
I perceive my work as a psychotherapist as more privilege than profession. I work with people who need help identifying the obstacles that keep them from evolving and growing. Living with depression and anxiety inhibits a person from feeling emotional fulfillment and interferes with how people relate to themselves and others. We need a safe place in which to look at ourselves without fear of judgment and criticism. Feeling safe and supported leads to self acceptance, and growth. I provide guidance within such an environment.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
