I focus on creating a fun telehealth environment for children and adolescents using different resources, and tailoring to the preferences of each client.
Through telehealth sessions, I endeavor to create an atmosphere where you can feel supported and comfortable to share openly your concerns. I have extensive experience as a telehealth counselor, and am able to make lasting connections and create a fun and engaging experience for those younger clients. Telehealth sessions are found to be just as effective as in-person sessions, and my goal is to tailor services uniquely for each client. My purpose and passion is working with children and their families. I approach counseling from a child -centered, mindful, and play-based approach. My belief is that we learn best when we are having fun, when people are curious about our worldviews, and when we are presented with developmentally appropriate treatments and strategies. Central to my approach is that we are all given challenges in life as a way to grow and develop into our best selves. Many of us are doing the best we can with what we know. Counseling can help us all do better.

Feeling like you may be in over your head or wonder if a problem is serious or just a "stage?" Whether it is parenting your child or teen, trying to balance your personal life, professional life, or manage your intimate relationship, even the best of us can still have times where an outside compassionate, neutral party is helpful. Let me help in managing your concerns and together we can find ways to utilize your gifts in overcoming current issues which prevent you from feeling fully empowered.

I work with school-aged children (approximately 7 years of age and older) and their parents, adolescents, young adults and beyond.
My approach to treatment is based in the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model. I work to help you identify feelings that have an impact on your behaviors and attitudes. By identifying this string of thoughts, feelings and actions, we can work together to make changes that bring about positive outcomes in your life. At times, making changes can be difficult. Techniques of Motivational Interviewing are useful when struggling to determine what changes would be the most beneficial. I approach every session with a trauma informed attitude so events that leave an emotional imprint can be effectively explored.

Life's challenges can seem so overwhelming at times that we lose sight of our inner strength. Together, we will nurture and rebuild that strength so that life can feel good again! Imagine the life of a seed - buried beneath the dark, lonely, constricting soil. If the seed considered its future, it would feel bleak and hopeless. Yet within that seed lies the unseen power to break through the soil with strength and grace. We are in many ways, just like that seed - full of potential! Whether you are seeking help for your child or yourself - I am here for you. Just as importantly, I will be here to encourage you with a caring heart!

Adolescents can experience stress during the teen years. I chose to specialize in working with adolescents because I enjoy helping them uncover their true potential. I find it rewarding to empower them with the tools they need to gain a greater sense of confidence in dealing with the concerns and challenges they face. Concerns include peer pressure, bullying, learning difficulties, test anxiety, poor time management skills, parental discord, and grief & loss issues. My goal is to foster an atmosphere of warmth, safety, and non-judgement as a means to assist them toward self-awareness and positive sense of well-being.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
