Testing and Evaluation Therapists in Haverford, PA
My ideal client spends a lot of energy worrying about, regretting, and resisting change—and arrives at therapy eager to make peace with something new and scary. They include new parents adjusting to raising kids, college students who are adjusting to life on campus, parents who struggle with their newly empty nest, and many others. In short, anyone whose life or family is entering a new phase. I see clients of all ages. Adults take respite with me by working through their changes in their lives, families and careers—while kids enjoy learning new skills with me in a friendly environment (which involves playing lots of games!)

A significant part of my practice involves testing for learning differences and attention issues.
I also work with families of divorce to help with this difficult transition. Children in families of divorce have diverse needs and parents often seek guidance how to meet those needs. A custody evaluation can be helpful in matching children's needs with the type of support each parent can capably provide to them.

Providing a road map, based on evaluation results, is the first step in reaching that goal.
I help bright kids who struggle in school, despite their effort and family supports, and who need direct help with crafting a plan moving forward. Kids may have diagnoses of learning, attention, or other developmental disorders, although this is less important than the plan we create to help the child start to experience success. I provide neuropsychological, dyslexia, and AD/HD evaluations to help families and schools develop targeted interventions to support success. In addition, I offer an intensive research-based reading program to accelerate reading development for severe dyslexics.

I also specialize in psychological testing.
I believe that most personal problems have developed over time and need careful and systematic exploration in order to be understood and modified. This calls for a conjoint effort in which both therapist and client collaborate to expand understanding. In my practice this occurs as a trusting, meaningful relationship develops, making it possible for me to develop a thorough understanding which I can then share with my client. I believe that symptoms are indications of underlying issues of which most people are only partially aware. As the therapy brings their issues into conscious awareness they can be effectively addressed.

Testing and Evaluation Therapists
What is a psychological evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.
Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?
Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.
How long does a psychological evaluation take?
Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.
How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?
Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
