Overwhelming worry and stress seem to follow you everywhere. You struggle to maintain focus, make decisions, and let go of things. Constant overthinking depletes your energy, leaving you irritable, restless, and on edge. The more this persists, the more dejected and hopeless you feel about it ever changing. You have tried coping on your own, but solutions that used to work no longer seem to help. You dream of a happier life – free from worry, present in the moment, and optimistic about the future – and wonder if it is possible. I know what these struggles are like, and I can help you restore hope in yourself.

I’m a licensed therapist working with adults who experience challenges such as anxiety, depression, anger, grief, life transitions, recurring relational patterns, self-doubt, meaninglessness, or the lingering effects of past traumas. I recognize these challenges are connected to childhood, family dynamics, relationships, history, culture, and systemic factors like racial, economic, sexual, and environmental oppression. A core part of my approach is embracing the fundamental humanity of everyone I work with and providing a compassionate, understanding space.

Your life has become exhausting. You have so much to do and your efforts never feel like they are enough. You would like to take time to slow down and focus on yourself for a change, but when will that realistically happen? There will always be something else to get done and you can’t seem to catch a break. Maybe your pain is taking the driver's seat, unsure of when your next flare up will strike. Maybe you've made your world smaller in hopes of having more control, but things continue to feel not quite right. You feel stuck in this place for what feels like an eternity and feeling uncertain about the future has become the norm.

I work well with a range of problems across the adult lifespan, with experience effectively treating depression, anxiety, trauma and problems with life transitions. I have a clinical interest in effective treatment of PTSD and serious mental illness. Since completing my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I am currently working toward licensure as a psychologist under the supervision of Dr. Hoolahan and Dr. Sell. As a Marine Corps veteran, I have an appreciation for the obstacles that other veterans may face, both at coping with challenges resulting from their service or those that arise through transitioning back to a civilian life.

Employed in the field of social and mental health services for 30 years. Working in a variety of settings has offered me the opportunity to understand human behavior and in general what makes people tick. This may sound odd to the lay person but my vast working experiences in places like foster care, drug and alcohol, mobile mental health services to children in their own home has truly prepared me to get a really good sense of how to get to the root of the problem and provide the necessary support to clients not strictly coming from an academic viewpoint.

As a specialist in Rehabilitation Psychology, I most often work closely with patients who are managing complex social and medical situations. I build trust and connect with patients about their concerns, fears, and hopes. Most clients are striving to feel more connected to their community and building meaning in their lives. We can all improve in these areas and the science of psychology offers wonderful tools to accomplish these goals. I believe strongly in the power of human resilience in the face of adversity.

I work with adults across the lifespan, including young professionals, mid-career adults, and older adults who are carrying a lot. Many are managing career pressure, caregiving roles, health changes, or major life transitions. A specialty in my practice is supporting individuals and care partners navigating Parkinson’s disease and related conditions (LBD/DLB, MSA, PSP, CBD). Many clients feel burned out, overwhelmed, or uncertain about their next chapter. Therapy offers space to process stress, grief, identity shifts, and the emotional impact of medical change.

I am deeply honored to have received the Distinguished Psychologist Award from the Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists. The ability to regulate emotions and solve problems are two of the most essential skills for success in life. Every individual possesses both visible and hidden strengths that, when accessed, can help them overcome challenges. My expertise is creating a safe, supportive space where clients can discover and tap into their inner resources. As they develop and strengthen their coping skills, transformative and positive change naturally follows.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
