My ideal clients are people of any age who have experienced a disruption in their childhood. They are now navigating big emotions, neurodiversity, identity questions, or behaviors that others label as “defiant.” They could also be nervous, withdrawn, refusing to go to school, or having outbursts. People are often exhausted, confused, and desperate for real support. Goals to consider are to: increase communication, reconnect with others, stabilize the home environment, and help build trust, emotional insight, and/or internal control. They’re seeking a therapist who "gets it," someone who sees beyond the behavior.

An ideal client for me is someone who is interested in doing a deep analysis of themselves because I believe that looking to the past allows clients to uncover hidden meanings or patterns that they can use to breakdown faulty beliefs, align with core values, find purpose, and heal. My approach works best for adults and teens who are navigating: trauma/PTSD, grief/loss, major life transitions, neurodivergence (ADHD/autism, late diagnosed, chronic masking, etc.), no/low contact family situations, identity exploration, anxiety, OCD, and personality issues.

One of my specialties is family therapy with adolescents and their parents. I enjoy supporting the bridge of communication between the generational differences, and helping each family member feel heard and seen. I work with the philosophy that we don't have to agree with one another to have compassion for one other. I see individuals, couples and families. I work with children as young as 6 years old. If you are seeking parenting support for your child/children, I offer a blended approach to supporting you based on where each specific child is in their development.

Do you feel overwhelmed by life lately? Wouldn't it be great if life was a never-ending vacation! Problems and bad days wouldn't exist and we would live over and over the best days of our life. Well, life is forever changing. Change happens all around us... with family, friends, work, relationships, or with our health. How is change impacting your life? Do you feel stressed, anxious, or depressed? Do you feel like no one understands? Do you feel like you don't know what to do about the problem you are facing? Do you feel like life is passing you by and you just can't get ahead? Can you relate? Then you have come to the right place.

It’s easy to feel disconnected—like your experience doesn’t match the world around you. Even when something resonates, it may still feel like something’s missing or you’re alone in your experience. That’s where therapy can help. I work with people who feel stuck in patterns that affect their relationships, careers, and sense of self. This may be related to trauma, addiction, life transitions, attention difficulties, OCD, or other mental health challenges.

Hi, I’m Michelle, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 14 years of experience helping teens, adults, and families navigate life’s challenges. I’ve always been drawn to helping people in meaningful ways. I initially planned to become a teacher, but I quickly realized I wanted to work more personally and one-on-one with individuals. That path led me to counseling, where I found my passion for supporting people through healing and growth.

I can take those with Aetna, Cigna, Highmark , United Healthcare insurance and UPMC.
Sometimes it is difficult to like ourselves, let alone love who we are. We can be our own harshest critic! Some people use the inner critic as a motivation to succeed in life, but what happens when the inner critic wears you down and it becomes debilitating? I believe there are inner resources and strengths in all of us. Sometimes we just need some guidance to figure out what they are and how to use them to better our lives. With thoughtful consideration to self-compassion and the development of a deeper self-awareness, we can work together to develop a new narrative for your life in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Life can be a lot. Maybe you’re tired from managing everything on your own, not quite sure who you are lately, or just done pretending things are fine. You don’t have to have it all figured out to start therapy, and you don’t have to do it alone. I offer a space where anxiety, grief, and shame will be met with compassion, not judgment. And where there’s also room for humor, lightness, and moments of joy. No quick fixes. Just honest, collaborative work that moves at your pace.

I believe in growth, in renewal, in the idea that we are always becoming. My work isn’t just about helping people manage emotions or change behaviors, it’s about helping them reconnect with themselves in a way that feels whole and real. Healing, to me, is about more than the mind—it’s about the body, the spirit, and the deep, often hidden, parts of our identity that long to be understood. My clients gain a deeper understanding of their emotions, their patterns, and their strengths. They learn to trust themselves, to set boundaries that honor their well-being, and to navigate life with greater clarity and confidence.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
