My ideal clients are people of any age who have experienced a disruption in their childhood. They are now navigating big emotions, neurodiversity, identity questions, or behaviors that others label as “defiant.” They could also be nervous, withdrawn, refusing to go to school, or having outbursts. People are often exhausted, confused, and desperate for real support. Goals to consider are to: increase communication, reconnect with others, stabilize the home environment, and help build trust, emotional insight, and/or internal control. They’re seeking a therapist who "gets it," someone who sees beyond the behavior.

An ideal client for me is someone who is interested in doing a deep analysis of themselves because I believe that looking to the past allows clients to uncover hidden meanings or patterns that they can use to breakdown faulty beliefs, align with core values, find purpose, and heal. My approach works best for adults and teens who are navigating: trauma/PTSD, grief/loss, major life transitions, neurodivergence (ADHD/autism, late diagnosed, chronic masking, etc.), no/low contact family situations, identity exploration, anxiety, OCD, and personality issues.

I’m Vicki. I help people who tend to overthink, stay busy, or try to manage everything on their own, and finally get some relief. My approach is down-to-earth and honest. My approach is collaborative and focused on what feels most helpful for you. I draw from IFS, person-centered, and CBT methods to explore patterns that keep you feeling stuck while building tools that bring real relief. We move at your pace with curiosity and honesty so therapy feels supportive, not overwhelming.

Do you feel like you are going through life’s struggles alone, unsupported and with no direction? Balancing the demands of life, work or school in today's fast paced and changing world can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, depressed, lonely or even angry. As children we sometimes develop behavioral strategies to face life's challenges or trauma's that as adults, simply no longer fit with how we imagine or intend ourselves to be. Understanding the nature and origin of destructive patterns and their consequences, addressing current challenges and long standing issues, gaining insight and learning the skills necessary for change is what successful therapy is about.

I work with clients who are open to being challenged as they work toward their goals. My path to therapy began after years in outdoor leadership, mountain guiding, and experiential education, where I learned how principles of adventure can support growth in everyday life. In therapy, I combine adventure-based approaches with traditional modalities such as ACT, CBT, and MI. I believe good therapy should feel safe while also being effortful and inspiring.

My ideal client is a thoughtful adult who feels emotionally worn down despite working hard to manage life well. They struggle with anxiety, overthinking, or a heavy, persistent sense of discouragement that shows up as tension, self-criticism, and disconnection. Many are navigating relationship strain, betrayal, or major life transitions and feel stuck in their head, unsure how to feel grounded or secure again. They want clarity, emotional steadiness, and meaningful change not just coping, but relief that lasts.

My approach is rooted in honoring the deep impact of relationships and the resiliency of adaptive strategies people learn to cope and survive. Getting to know these patterns within the family, community, and ecological contexts we are living through can empower people towards more agency and living in alignment with their values. I work best with other humans seeking justice and liberation, and many of my clients are community organizers, care workers, poly couples, and trans folks.

As the owner of Innate Strength Counseling, our practice is grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Many of the clients who find us are looking for a real partnership in therapy, someone who brings clinical skill and guidance while still honoring their voice, goals, and pace. People come to us at all kinds of crossroads: a family that can’t get on the same page, a child whose behavior may be signaling something bigger, or an adult who has been carrying too much for too long. Wherever you’re starting from, we meet you there. Together, we work toward your definition of what “better” looks like.

My ideal clients are adults, professionals, and college students struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship conflict, burnout, depression, perfectionism, or feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns. People often come to therapy because they want more than short-term coping skills. Many want to understand not just what they feel, but why they feel it. Using a psychodynamic and attachment-based approach, we explore how past experiences and relationships shape present emotions and behaviors. I integrate CBT, DBT, and Existential Therapy to help clients build insight, emotional resilience, healthier relationships, and lasting change.

I'm dedicated to providing evidence-based and compassionate care, in a collaborative and supportive environment, adapting care to each person’s unique needs and goals. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Tech and completed my predoctoral internship at Western Psychiatric Hospital. After graduating, I completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, where I used neuroimaging to study brain vulnerabilities that can persist in treated depression.

I've been told this sounds fake and made up but it's really true! At Ren & Rei Counseling, we are a very relaxed environment. When you come to the office you can greet a dog, snuggle some cats, grab a drink, and have some snacks. You can even kick off your shoes! We are all in socks or slippers anyway. While we are very relaxed, we are still very focused on helping our people. We work with ages 5+ in individual, couples, and family sessions. We have experience with trauma, grief, ADHD, anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, personality disorders, social concerns, identity concerns, and suicidal ideations and self-harming.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
