After asking your teenager countless times to clean their room, you walk in to see them playing video games with their dirty socks all over the floor! Now you’re seeing red. You’re either giving in to their bad behavior, snapping in frustration, and then feeling guilty about it. You know your kid needs extra support. His teachers have been throwing around “ADHD” as a diagnosis, but no one has any helpful advice. You’re in over your head. The habits he learns now will affect the rest of his life, and you feel like you’re failing him as a parent. You want what’s best for your child, but this feels like more than you can handle alone.

My name is Samantha Gregg. I am a LCSW in Pennsylvania and an LMSW in Maryland. I offer telehealth services to those residing in PA and in-person or telehealth services to those residing in MD. A client who would be a good fit for my services is likely a teen or tween who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, neurodivergence, identity issues, difficulty finding providers fluent in ASL, the effects of trauma, and/or part of the LGBTQIA+ community. In outpatient therapy, internal motivation is important; I also hold the understanding that motivation can take time to build.

"We can always start again. Or start over." Hello, and welcome. Why suffer longer than you need to? I invite you to come sit on my cozy couch in a peaceful environment where you will receive essential tips about how to release that dead weight that has been dragging you down. My ideal client is tired of their mental health taking over. They are tired of their anxiety keeping them up at night. They are tired of their crappy mood affecting their relationships with others. They are tired of not following their dreams. They are tired- but they are willing to heal to live.

There have been a lot of changes in the past two years. With those changes, I have witnessed an increase in depression and anxiety of those around me. If this describes you, I am here to help. I am available to help anyone who is looking to increase their coping skills and get back to enjoying their lives. I utilize evidenced-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to address how someone's thoughts are interfering with achieving their goals. We set small, baby steps each week to work towards obtaining their treatment goal, and will evaluate barriers to their success.

Finding a kink-friendly therapist isn't easy; WE KNOW! Understanding the complexities of your lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. You can't tell just anyone that you love wearing/holding a collar, dressing as another gender, or the sweet smell of a woman's shoes. Or, can you? Being different is not a novel concept; being understood is. Some days, it's difficult to understand yourself, so how could a therapist possibly begin to wade through it all? The complexity only deepens when you can't even discuss these issues with your own partner. The desperation builds. The isolation intensifies. Your online search yields little success

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
