I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I believe that our challenges and strengths emerge from a combination of our personality, biology, family upbringing, environment, stage of life, and current relationships. My goal as a therapist is to help individuals, couples, and families make sense of these influences and understand the context that affects them. My second goal is to support my clients in making the changes they want within this context. I collaborate with my clients to find what works for them in therapy be it validation, challenge, comfort, support, guidance, or a good laugh.

Utilizing multiple theoretical structures, as well as a holistic approach, my goal is to offer each individual validation as well as guidance toward a shift in either perspective or behavior. This process involves identifying perceptual, emotional, and spiritual barriers and nurturing inner resources. I see the counseling process as the exploration of both our past and current reality as well as what is needed to help us grow into a whole, healthy individual. I have extensive knowledge of family and relationship dynamics, treating adult survivors of abuse, depression and anxiety, the addictions field, and pain management.

We all get stuck sometimes, whether it be with making an important decision or simply in unhealthy thought and behavioral patterns. I enjoy helping individuals, couples and families recognize unhelpful patterns and work towards becoming "unstuck." People often bear the symptoms of what is going on around them and these symptoms become visible as depression, anxiety, etc. I enjoy helping individuals, couples and families to become the best that they can be and to have the best relationships that they can have.

I apply an
attachment-based
approach to therapy which will learn help develop confidence, authenticity, improve your relationships, and helps you reconnect with yourself and your loved ones.
You thirst to understand yourself and those around you with depth and clarity. You desire to uncover insight into who you are and your relationships. You struggle with perfectionism and are convinced that you will get left behind unless you do all the right things and be everything. You give so much care and attention to other people that you don’t know what it feels like to get your own needs met. If any of this resonates with you, you are in the right place. Through therapy, you will develop a relationship of compassion, love, and kindness to yourself and your relationships.

Welcome! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Art Therapist, and Play Therapist that specializes in work with children, adolescents, college students, parents, and families. I provide a safe space to release difficult emotions, look carefully at conflict, and provide tools to enhance family connection and inner wisdom. I use both verbal and non-verbal approaches, because sometimes we don't have the words to express what we are going through and need another way to tell the story.

For me, therapy is about throwing away the notion that there is something wrong with us that needs fixing and embarking on an honest journey of self-exploration that allows us to gain deeper insight and awareness. I work alongside you to explore the messages of your heart, mind, body and spirit. Every healing journey is unique, however, this work can look like ‘inner child work’ and reclaiming parts of yourself that have been forgotten or abandoned, identifying patterns of the mind and the body, unpacking your narrative, developing a spiritual practice that deepens your connection to spirit and creating a perception reframe.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
