Therapists for Teens in Furlong, PA
I work with all gender clients, 13yrs and up. As men and women, young and old, we are multitaskers, we take care of others while neglecting ourselves. Self-care-self-love is foreign. Many self-medicate with food, alcohol, pills, shopping, social media, relationships, the list can go on. This creates a cycle of shame, remorse, and regret. We realize- I am not happy-how come? The people I work with are trying to answer that question. They are looking for someone else or something else to make them happy. An external fix/distraction to avoid feeling upset. And yet the outcome continues to be is anxiety, depression, substance abuse

Overwhelming worry and stress seem to follow you everywhere. You struggle to maintain focus, make decisions, and let go of things. Constant overthinking depletes your energy, leaving you irritable, restless, and on edge. The more this persists, the more dejected and hopeless you feel about it ever changing. You have tried coping on your own, but solutions that used to work no longer seem to help. You dream of a happier life – free from worry, present in the moment, and optimistic about the future – and wonder if it is possible. I know what these struggles are like, and I can help you restore hope in yourself.

Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and the success of therapy often depends on the "match" between client and therapist. Contact me and determine whether I might be a good fit for you. I work with individuals in a collaborative manner who are feeling stuck, sad, anxious, overwhelmed with changes in their lives or who are struggling in relationships. I most often focus on issues related to depression, anxiety, adjustment/life transitions, relationship problems, trauma and abuse, self-esteem and body image.

Some of us were shaped by relationships and families where love came with conditions, where connection hurt, or where we had to trade our authenticity for survival. We may question where we belong, if love can exist without earning it, and whether our feelings are even valid. We’ve felt like a guest in our own story while carrying unseen grief. We may have adapted to sense danger others can't comprehend. Trust hasn't felt safe. Belonging hasn't felt simple. In the wake of complex trauma, we may find that we perform being “OK,” suppress our needs, and endlessly translate our world for others. This is exhausting and deeply lonely.

Good therapy starts with trust. We open up with people who earn the right to hear our story; as we build trust together we can begin to explore, identify, and tolerate emotions in healthier ways. Our emotions are data- guiding us to truth, relief and self-trust. When we manage our emotions, we can learn how to communicate in healthier ways and experience more rewarding relationships in life. Therapy is an excavation, a cathartic oxygenation of buried experience.

Therapy shouldn't feel like talking to a robot who's secretly judging you. I'm a real person who understands that life is messy.
I won't promise to fix everything, because that's not how this works. What I can offer is a genuine space where we figure things out together - sometimes with tears, sometimes with laughter (often both).
When stuff feels impossible, I'm in your corner. Not as some all-knowing guru, but as someone who believes you've got more strength than you realize.

I believe that every person has the potential to grow, become the best version of themselves, and discover strengths they didn't even know they had. Life can be challenging, and sometimes it's difficult to see the possibilities it holds when you are weighed down by stress, self-doubts, or unhealthy habits. As your therapist, it is my ultimate goal to support you in becoming a better version of yourself. In our work together, you'll be welcomed with a warm space where you can feel seen, heard, and valued for who you are, without judgement.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
