I have been practicing Individual, Couple, & Family Therapy for over 15 years.
Therapy can be a great way to work through issues you might be having in your own life, in your relationship, or in your family . We are constantly affected by those closest (and sometimes farthest!) from us. These relationships can be helpful, harmful, or somewhere in between. Finding your way in the context of these relationships can help bring a sense of contentment to your life. I provide a supportive and respectful environment where you can do this important work.

a new perspective, a shift in how to approach relationships, family , or work.
My work is to help you clearly identify both the situation or problem you wish to change and the factors that led to this point. I can help you develop a healthy process for navigating life's transitions and for sustaining good relationships and alliances. I have decades of experience in this. But part of my helping my clients is awareness of my own process for growth and change. I have developed and tested a sure sense of what skills and support my clients need to flourish in relationships, family , school, and work. I also offer affordable in-person support and skills groups for parents and for adults on the spectrum.

I have experience working with depression, anxiety, relationship and family issues, parenting struggles, substance use disorders, self-harm, life transitions, ADHD and ODD, and self-esteem-related issues.
I enjoy working with clients who are transitioning to the next stage of their lives or want to set new life/career goals. The next step could be transitioning from high school to college, beginning a new relationship, or a new career/job. I like to support the client with exploring these new goals, help build confidence/self-esteem to take those first steps towards them, and re-evaluate goals if necessary. I find that these transitions come with a lot of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues that can hold clients back, which I like to explore, build solutions, and help them realize that goals are achievable.

The family is the foundation upon which we develop our understanding of how to interact and form relationships with people. The family is where we develop our first understanding of how to deal with various emotions such as anger, love, happiness, and sadness. It is also where we learn to manage conflict. I believe in taking the strengths and values that already exist within a family and using them to enhance family relationships and Inspire its members to live a healthier and happier life.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
