It's a hard decision to start therapy. Committing to yourself is a big deal particularly when time feels so limited by life's demands. At times we find ourselves so stressed, overwhelmed, depressed, and/or anxious. It's not easy to consider taking time out for ourselves. If you are ready for therapy, whether it be a life transition, stress,
relationship
issues, and/or anxiety; consider an approach that evaluates all aspects of your life. Collaborating together, I offer comprehensive therapy with years of experience and fresh evidence based preservatives.

Anxiety, depression, anger, and low self-esteem are issues that can be overwhelming. I help clients to identify the factors that contribute to these issues, and then assist in formulating a plan to reduce the symptoms and resolve the problems. I provide a warm, nonjudgmental environment to address these concerns. Additionally, I am experienced in working with individuals and
couples
struggling with relationships and/or parenting. Parenting can be wonderful, but also extremely challenging. Relationships can falter. These situations can bring up unexpected thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to share with friends and family.

The essence of therapy is to free the present from the past. Together, we can see how issues from your childhood, can be blocking your present-day well-being. This understanding will give you the tools to move beyond the stuck places, and to live more fully in the present. Motivation increases, and change becomes possible, furthering positive growth, with my ongoing support. A thorough assessment, allows the therapy to focus on strategies for change.

I specialize in helping
couples
and individuals develop "connection" in their marriages and relationships. To illustrate, your
partner
seems "distant" lately- so you seek reassurance. Instead of providing comfort, he or she "pulls away" in anticipation of triggering an argument. In turn, your insecurity grows yet bigger. Over time, the more one mate seeks "closeness," the more the other "distances." Partners become "stuck" in painful "circles" such as "Pursue-Withdraw." Both are hurt by each others "criticism" or "coldness"- and unintentionally trigger their mates' invisible "raw spots." Even if identified, "vulnerabilities" are difficult to discuss constructively without a "translator" (therapist).

"I can’t believe I did it again! Why do I always do this to myself?" "OK, I decided to stop drinking, now what?" Or “ I just want my kid to talk to me. I have no idea what’s going on and I’m worried.” Sound familiar? Being stuck in a cycle you want to break can bring shame or guilt that you are not enough, or not doing enough. You want to learn how to live without numbing out, overcompensating, or burning out. Maybe you have gone to therapy before and it helped, but you feel you’re slipping. Now you want to do something different and step away from thought-focused work as you see it’s limitations to incorporate your whole self.

So, my guess is that you are here because you are looking to make a change possibly. The same problem continues to surface without an end in sight. Maybe you thought about making this change before, but then a few days went by then life went on. Even though life went on that change you needed to make never happened so now we are back here again. At this very moment when you are contemplating a change it is very important that you make a commitment to yourself that you will not continue to do the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

In addition to my analytically informed psychotherapy practice, I offer psychedelic assisted psychotherapy, for individuals,
couples
, in in small group retreat settings.
My clients describe me as warm, compassionate and funny, but also as direct, challenging, and focused; seeking out the hard and stuck places in their approach to living and loving. I don't try to convince my clients that life is easy or carefree, but I do believe lots of happiness and contentment can be found when we face and come to terms with our truths. Unlike many folks offering therapy services, I bring extensive education and training in analytically informed psychotherapy, which I belief enriches and deepens the work.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
