It's a hard decision to start therapy. Committing to yourself is a big deal particularly when time feels so limited by life's demands. At times we find ourselves so stressed, overwhelmed, depressed, and/or anxious. It's not easy to consider taking time out for ourselves. If you are ready for therapy, whether it be a life transition, stress, relationship issues, and/or anxiety ; consider an approach that evaluates all aspects of your life. Collaborating together, I offer comprehensive therapy with years of experience and fresh evidence based preservatives.

I serve as "guide" through a maze of "Interpersonal Difficulties" (inadequacy, intimacy, infidelity, anxiety , trauma, depression, grieving, shame, arguments, anger, jealousy, etc.
I specialize in helping couples and individuals develop "connection" in their marriages and relationships. To illustrate, your partner seems "distant" lately- so you seek reassurance. Instead of providing comfort, he or she "pulls away" in anticipation of triggering an argument. In turn, your insecurity grows yet bigger. Over time, the more one mate seeks "closeness," the more the other "distances." Partners become "stuck" in painful "circles" such as "Pursue-Withdraw." Both are hurt by each others "criticism" or "coldness"- and unintentionally trigger their mates' invisible "raw spots." Even if identified, "vulnerabilities" are difficult to discuss constructively without a "translator" (therapist).

We're often told that our 20s and 30s are the best years of our lives. But it doesn't feel like that if you're constantly struggling with self-criticism, feeling insecure in your relationships, and regularly experiencing "impostor syndrome" at school or work. The reality is that it's hard to enjoy your 20s and 30s if you're still holding onto baggage from your past. Whether your parents were emotionally unavailable, you were bullied by classmates or a sibling, you lost friendships throughout your childhood and adolescence, or were hurt by a romantic partner, the results are often the same- anxiety , depression, and low self-esteem.

Additionally, I treat children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing concerns related to communication, trauma, ADHD, anxiety , stress, grief and loss, divorce, parenting, life phase transitions, body image, self-esteem, and stress / burnout.
Concerns related to sex and intimacy are some of the most sensitive and personal. Experiencing sexual concerns, such as low sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, pelvic pain, or difficulty with orgasm no longer has to be secretive or embarrassing. Finding a therapist who is open, supportive, and has effective tools is imperative on the journey to satisfaction and pleasure. Using a Cognitive Behavioral & collaborative approach, I work with individuals or couples to help them further understand the concerns that effect them, their relationships, & their sexual functioning.

We help kids and teens work through their anxiety and feelings of being singled out, excluded, or stereotyped.
It's hard navigating what’s happening in the world. You want the best possible education and experiences for your child, and that could mean putting them in situations that expose them to racism and classism early on. Being the only or one of few is hard! The reality is that this can be confusing for your child and they often lack the tools to handle these situations. The impact on their day to day images of themselves is massive. Their once bright eyes are a little dimmer. Their trust in peers and adults lessens. Your once confident child or teen is now self-conscious, anxious, and struggles to meet unfair standards.

The transition from childhood to adulthood is often tough. We have big questions —about identity, relationships, and what we want for our lives—and few easy answers. When we experience grief or trauma, life is even harder. The pandemic suddenly disrupted school, routines, and relationships. We may still feel the impact of our losses. Anxiety and depression can surface in response to all these stressors. My role as your therapist is to create a safe and affirming space where you can be heard, learn practical tools to manage the challenges you are facing, and ultimately find your own solutions.

Anxiety , depression, anger, and low self-esteem are issues that can be overwhelming. I help clients to identify the factors that contribute to these issues, and then assist in formulating a plan to reduce the symptoms and resolve the problems. I provide a warm, nonjudgmental environment to address these concerns. Additionally, I am experienced in working with individuals and couples struggling with relationships and/or parenting. Parenting can be wonderful, but also extremely challenging. Relationships can falter. These situations can bring up unexpected thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to share with friends and family.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
