I believe that all individuals are able to change but get stuck in patterns that do not serve them well due to daily stress. Changing these patterns is accomplished through interactive conversations and identifying why these patterns are not useful before creating new useful patterns. I work with couples on a variety of issues such as trust and betrayal, affairs, intimacy, grief, divorce, communication, addictions, and any of the myriad of relationship issues all couples experience. In addition, I work with children, youth and their families on a variety of relationship issues dealing with conflict, communication, parenting , defiance, adoption and respect.

Our lives are defined by our relationships. However, maintaining and nourishing these relationships can be a challenge. My goal as a therapist is to help families, individuals, and couples seeking to rejuvenate and rebuild relationships at all stages, whether you're experiencing marital difficulties, tensions with parenting , or managing relationships with elderly parents or children who have moved out of the house. In therapy sessions, I use a lighthearted touch and maintain a calm, safe environment that not only makes difficult moments tolerable but also encourages you to be reflective and self-aware.

My passion is working with children, teenagers, young adults, couples and families to process trauma and difficult experiences so they can experience growth and healing within themselves and their relationships. Through my work with individuals and family's I have learned the deep importance of understanding "what has happened" to people rather than viewing people through the lens of "what is wrong with people". Likewise, the importance of understanding family of origin and how this shapes our views of people and the world and impacts how we relate with people and navigate our world.

In any psychotherapy the relationship between the client and their therapist is of paramount importance. With that in mind, I prioritize getting to know each person that I work with in a meaningful way as we engage in the process of symptom reduction. I pride myself on being able to build comfortable discussion with adults, adolescents, and children and tailor communication to best fit each developmental stage. When working with families I ensure that each family members' concern is heard and work to join with each member while remaining focused on addressing the issue which brought them to treatment.

I work on helping everyone find their unique path towards success and growth. In this work I have learned that there is no "one right way" to do things and everyone has a unique and personal journey towards finding the peace, success and growth they want in themselves, their lives and relationships. My goal is to help everyone I work with find this path and walk with them as they journey through the many challenges of their lives.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
