I work with individuals and people with whom I consult or supervise from the Internal Family Systems model because it is strength based, not pathologizing and most importantly, it works extraordinarily well.
My approach in working has always and continues to be holistic and strength-based, interactive and collaborative. Although I am not taking new clients for psychotherapy, I am offering supervision and consultation for mental health practitioners and yoga therapists. I have 20 years experience offering supervision and mentoring, and 40 years experience working directly with clients.

I use family systems concepts to illuminate and improve relational patterns.
Have you "disappeared" in order to be in a relationship? Do you feel "selfish" considering your own needs and wants? Would you like to stand up for yourself AND still be in relationship? Is the phrase, "I matter, too," one you want to believe? If so, the time has come to create effective ways to move into relationship with Self and Others. The truth is that each of us matters equally. When we live from a place of mutual importance, we honor boundaries, make decisions for ourselves, and are responsible for the only person we can truly manage, our self.

Do you feel stuck? Perhaps you used to feel confident and capable, and now you feel like you can't get any traction. I work with people who are used to having all of the answers, and now find themselves at a loss - smart tweens who are struggling with their emotions, smart teenagers who are struggling with their families, smart adults who feel stuck or are making bad choices. People who are creative and hard-working often find me to be a good fit for their goals, including executives, those who are in non-traditional jobs or jobs with unconventional structures, those who are in non-traditional relationships, and are LGBTQI+.

You have been told you are too sensitive and were constantly invalidated for how you feel. People in your life have made you feel unworthy or less than your value. You're a feeler and feeler’s care, deeply. Your emotions have felt too overwhelming to acknowledge, so you try to ignore them, but they spill over into your daily life. You become triggered and have difficulty managing those emotions when they come to the surface. If you are feeling the ripple effects of past trauma or experience intense emotions such as shame, sadness, low self-esteem, anger, or anxiety, I know how to help!

I enjoy empowering young people to pursue peace and healing within themselves, become aware of patterns that have been holding them back, & become confident in their own abilities. I believe we all experience our own unique set of circumstances that subconsciously affect our emotional well-being, our relationships, how we see ourselves, and our interactions in the world. I use a holistic approach in therapy, which means, I look at all aspects of your internal and external environment to help you gain understanding, and discover your best self to begin healing.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
