There is no problem too big, sadness too deep or struggle too complex. As long as there is "today", there is always hope. I support individuals, couples, families and groups from ages 12+ who struggle with trauma, substance use, depression, anxiety, domestic/interpersonal violence, church/faith issues and marriage and family conflict. My Health and Fitness expertise and training in Integrative Medicine and Nutrition for PTSD and Complex Trauma, has allowed me to create a holistic approach to trauma recovery. I created a program which implements the use of body movement, muscle relaxation, deep breathing, and nutrition.

I see therapy as an interactive process for exploring and changing old patterns that hold back growth. Quietly taking notes and asking "So how does that make you feel?" is not my style. I integrate a range of techniques from AEDP, CBT and EFT to focus attention on repairing parts that feel broken and strengthen those that are actually working. In my couples and relationship work, this often takes the shape of rebuilding trust and finding new ways to identify and better communicate the different needs of each partner. I also specialize in supporting the unique experiences and needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. También hablo español.

You're the one everyone leans on. You're kind, empathetic, and always there for others. On the outside, it looks like you have it together. But inside, you're overwhelmed, anxious, and exhausted from trying to do everything "right". Saying no feels impossible; taking care of yourself feels selfish. You hold yourself to impossible standards and still feel like it's never enough. I work with Millennial and Gen Z women who are tired of people-pleasing, perfectionism, and putting themselves last. Together, we can explore the roots of these patterns and gently unlearn them using Art Therapy alongside CBT, DBT, and Positive Psychology.

I’ve learned that meaningful change happens when people feel truly seen, understood, and supported. My work as a licensed psychologist is centered on collaborating with individuals to move beyond feeling "stuck" and toward living more balanced, purposeful, and fulfilling lives. Each session will give you specific strategies for change to practice each week. In addition to traditional psychotherapy, I integrate elements from art therapy, mindfulness, and mind-body awareness. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming psychologist providing a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

I believe we were created to thrive emotionally, physically and spiritually. When one of these areas becomes vulnerable or we experience suffering, our whole self can feel the effects. Life has a way of bringing difficult times into all of our lives and we were created us with an innate need for community. The support of therapy is a way that individuals, families and couples can find refuge and direction to find healing, to once again live in the joy you are created for and to live with purpose.

I have practiced psychotherapy, with a special interest in treating couple, marital and family relationship problems, for over 30 years. Clients usually seek help to relieve painful symptoms such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, stress related physical illnesses, family conflicts, etc. In my experience, human problems are best understood within their larger social context. I believe that disturbances in relationships are a major source of chronic stress and suffering in modern life.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
