Whatever your reason for seeking therapy for yourself or your teen, I am so happy you're here! Maybe you've suffered traumatic experiences or relationships that have left you feeling lost, and are hoping to feel like yourself again. Perhaps you've been facing anxiety that interrupts your life with worry, intrusive thoughts, and panic attacks; or depression that keeps you stuck within sadness, hopelessness, or feeling numb and disconnected. Or maybe challenges within your relationships - romantic, family, friends - make it feel scary to connect with people and trust others.

I use an integrated approach in which I combine a blend of Humanistic, Systemic, Relational Family Systems, with a sprinkle of Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques.
As a therapist, my priority is establishing a safe, secure, and trusted relationship with my clients so that they have the space to be their authentic self to create the change they are seeking. I strongly believe that a relational connection is the foundation to creating long-term, therapeutic change. My approach includes utilizing validation and empathy, curiosity, and therapeutic challenging in a way that feels manageable, and helps me meet the client where they’re at. I want my clients to leave the office feeling empowered, hopeful, and having a new perspective of their perception of the world.

My orientation is eclectic, using various disciplines, and skills from psychodynamic, behavioral, systems, and humanistic approaches.
I provide therapy for individuals, couples, families, adults and children. I have worked with many different clients providing the support needed for change. My experience at various social service agencies, at a child and family clinic; and in a college clinic has given me the opportunity to work with many adults, children, adolescents and families. I find my training in marriage and family therapy is particularly helpful for my clients in that it helps individuals better understand their relationships with themselves and others in their life. I regularly look at the systemic process in relationships, and at attachment issues.

Secondly, my approach to psychodynamic work incorporates self-examination and reflection to identify the psychological roots of their emotional stress and strength-based to empower clients to recognize their internal strengths rather than their feelings of failure or shortcomings.
In my work with adolescents, young adults, and adults, I assist them in understanding their feelings and behaviors in everyday life. I help them learn how to deal with their anxiety, family conflict, self-esteem issues, ADHD symptoms, and depression. I teach them tools to use in difficult situations in school, at home, and socially. Sometimes, clients experience depersonalization, where they are shut down from their emotions, which can result in feeling numb or a lack of motivation, so I will work with the client to help them "feel" again, and I teach them techniques and skills to manage daily stress or triggers.

I use somatic, IFS, relational, and psychodynamic work to support folks navigating post- and ongoing traumatic stress, developmental trauma including sexual abuse and emotional neglect, the messiness of community and relationship, and more.
Oppressive systems thrive when we disconnect from our bodies, separate from our histories, and turn away from our inner experiences. But what opens up when we find ways to remember these things? What happens when we allow the body to be wise? With a warm, steady presence informed by values of liberation, pleasure, and radical compassion, I walk side-by-side with people in the direction of their inalienable embodied wisdom, tending with them to all the thickets and rainfall along the way.

Maybe things are feeling out of control? Or perhaps you are feeling alone and you need someone to talk to? It can be difficult to ask for help in those moments, but they are also the most powerful moments to be witnessed and accepted for who you are—to invite and make space for the beauty and the hurt, the difficult, the confusing, and the wonderful. If you reach out, I can provide a space where all parts of you are welcome and seen.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
