Female Therapists in Ephrata, PA
Therapy is a great opportunity for exploration of oneself, relationships, family, and in general navigating life. In this process, one can learn about their patterns, strengths, and areas of growth. My goal as a couples, family, and individual therapist, is to create a safe environment where I can walk along side you as you work toward reaching your goals. I believe that therapy is a collaboration to not only work through struggles and build skills, but to also celebrate the strengths and victories along the way. Together we can gain clarity and develop skills that encourage healthy patterns and fulfilling relationships.

You’ve read self-help books, listened to podcasts, and have been in therapy, but still feel stuck or like you are just trying to survive. You feel like your relationships are suffering because your traumatic experiences get in the way of connection. You continue to feel triggered by things that you thought you had worked through & by negative self-talk. You need help right now and you don’t want to continue to spend months or even years in weekly talk therapy. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, trauma, sexuality, high achiever burnout, or relationships, I’d love to hear your story & help you move forward with an EMDR Intensive.

I am Erin King, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about helping people recover from trauma. I will use a person-centered approach to meet you where you are at. I will listen when you explain your goals and what you would like to get out of therapy. As a social worker, I was trained to use a person-centered, strengths-based approach. As a trauma-centered practitioner, I ask not "what is wrong with you?" but "What happened to you and how has that impacted you?" The relational aspect of therapy is crucial: studies show that the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client is a predictor of client success.

I work with primarily preteens, adolescents, and adults. My main focus of treatment is working with clients who are struggling with emotional issues, whether they are situational or due to a diagnosed mood and/or personality disorder. Additionally, I specialize in treating clients who have both emotional issues and substance abuse problems. I have worked in the mental health and addictions field for the past 20 years and feel that most substance abuse issues are the symptom of an underlying emotional problem. Music therapy is a modality I offer to clients who may struggle with traditional "talk therapy".

I consider it such an honor to journey alongside people as they work towards wholeness and hope. Through consistent patience and exploration, new pathways are formed in our minds as we find ourselves viewing the past, present, and future in new ways. I would love to join you in your process. If you want to share your story and your goals, I can hold space for you; help you learn about yourself, your patterns, and your scripts; examine your choices with you to determine how they help and hurt you based on your values; and utilize EMDR therapy to address trauma and other distressing experiences.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
