I work with adults who are untangling layers of trauma, identity, and life transitions. Many of my clients are queer, trans, neurodivergent, or chronically ill and looking for a therapist who understands those lived realities. Together we explore how old stories, cultural messages, and body-based experiences shape self-worth & relationships. I use humor, curiosity, and creativity to help people feel supported in bringing their full selves to therapy. Whether we’re working with grief, trauma, or identity exploration, I see myself as a fellow traveler - someone to walk alongside you as you reclaim your voice and reimagine your story.

My ideal client is an adult navigating anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, grief, religious or complex trauma, life transitions, or questions of identity and neurodivergence. They may feel constrained by shame, avoidance, or systems that prioritize productivity, compliance, and linear healing. They are seeking a soft, grounded space where they can explore the complexities of being human, take meaningful risks in self-expression, and move toward a way of being that feels more intuitive, expansive, and free.

Therapy is a profoundly human endeavor that allows us to untangle the past and live more fully in the present, enabling us to alter the trajectory of our futures. Hello, I'm Em! I consider it an honor to help others forge ahead in the face of life’s challenges and sufferings. My approach is warm, conversational, and non-pathologizing. I show up to sessions with humility and flexibility, collaborating with you to personalize treatment. Though therapy can be a heavy undertaking, I believe in the infusion of humor (and even fun!) into the process.

Challenging circumstances or chronic stress can take a toll on our mental health. It’s great you are considering counseling to gain new insight into your life, make important changes, or simply feel more supported at this time. I believe having a better understanding of our past experiences and current habits can help us more effectively manage life’s ups and downs. My approach to counseling starts with identifying underlying causes of anger, anxiety, or depression—as well as uncovering each client’s unique strengths and coping strategies. From there, I strive to help clients develop new, healthier thought patterns and behaviors.

My clinical expertise is addiction/substance abuse treatment (both user and impacted family members) as I've worked in both inpatient & outpatient settings. I am very familiar with 12-step recovery but it is not my only tool. I can provide evaluation/assessment and potential referral to rehab if needed. My style is hands on & solution-oriented -- my goal is that you leave our sessions feeling empowered, motivated and have more coping skills to manage your life. There is no reason why you should continue to suffer or struggle; you deserve to feel better & develop confidence in yourself.

We’re the right fit for people who feel like they’re carrying more than they can hold—but keep showing up anyway. Our clients are caring, capable, and exhausted by anxiety, grief, disconnection, or the pressure to have it all together. Some are navigating identity, family stress, or major transitions. Others just want to feel like themselves again. Whether they’re 5 or 65, single or partnered, they want real support from people who show up. They’re not looking for surface talk—they want honesty, depth, and a therapist who genuinely cares.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
