I am well acquainted with anxiety, depression and offer CBT and DBT skills; as well as family and relational issues, adolescence, past
trauma
/abuse, abandonment issues, SPD,
PTSD
, RAD and other attachment and adjustment issues, adoption and foster care related issues,self-destructive behaviors and inability to regulate emotions.
I have a true passion for working with adults and adolescents who are suffering from an inability to form healthy relationships with their loved ones. My office offers a warm setting for people of all ages to feel safe and explore their "child within". I use play and art therapy as well as evidenced based techniques to empower parents and help them to connect with their child and unlock their full potential. I love helping families grow with healthy coping skills. I also truly enjoy working with adults to explore their own past and how it affects their relationships today.

Welcome. I see individual therapy as a process of joining someone in dealing with difficult situations or problems. I will listen carefully and strive to provide an emotionally safe and nonjudgmental space to explore and work through your concerns. Experiencing a genuine connection in a relaxed and non-stigmatizing atmosphere is an important part of therapy, and we can see if we are a "good match" to work together.

Counseling is more than telling your story. It is a dynamic process we engage in together, compassionately and diligently. It couples personal exploration with education. Having completed the level 1 training for Internal Family Systems I create a safe space for all parts of self to be present in the room. All parts are welcomed and honored as an intricate part of creating who we are. I also utilize an active Sensorimotor and
trauma
informed approach to help you re-establish emotional and relational balance. Whatever struggle you are facing: depression, anxiety, addiction, troubled relationships, the therapeutic process can help.

As a
trauma
informed art therapist and counselor I have observed that humans have a propensity to express who they are and it is honoring that expression that we can thrive and heal if necessary.
My emphasis in therapy is to support people with their unique goals. Through a healing centered engagement with ourselves and the world, restoration can take place. After I received my masters in art therapy/counseling I began working with adults and adolescents in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.

Life can be overwhelming. There can be struggles; relationship issues, life transitions, the
trauma
of an accident or abuse. Sometimes talking with friends or family doesn't help. Talking with someone who can listen carefully, who is empathic and offers confidentiality can help. I believe it is this therapeutic relationship, based on a foundation of trust and respect that provides a safe place to take the risks that are necessary for change. I can help you recognize your internal strengths and positive qualities which will encourage you to see more possibilites for yourself.

Is your pre-teen or teen doubting themselves because the feel like they don’t fit the same mold as their peers? Have they expressed feeling alone, lonely or excluded? Have they experienced a loss or a
trauma
that is impacting their day to day life? The challenges children face today are many and the resulting feelings show up in the way they behave and feel. Possibly feeling sad or anxious, having frequent stomach and head aches, and/or behavioral and mood changes. Are you overwhelmed, feeling as though you can't make this better for your child? It only takes one family member's stress to throw the whole family off balance.

According to the National Center for
PTSD
, 6 out of every 10 men and 5 out of every 10 women will experience at least one
trauma
in their lives. Traumatic experiences can leave individuals feelings scared, overwhelmed and ashamed. Many do not seek help. We as individuals are hard wired to bounce back from bad stuff in our path. Recovery from the past is possible.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
