Based on your needs and preferences, I observe, assess, and provide immediate feedback on your existing relational and thought patterns, and recommend concrete, specific coping strategies including mindfulness (18 years and >).
Have you ever felt, "Why is this happening to me, I don't know who I am anymore!" Constant worrying, low mood, relational challenges, and life transitions can wear you down. Simultaneously, navigating multiple cultural contexts can challenge your values and world views, often creating dissonance about who you are. Within the mindful space of therapy, I can help you examine the nature of your worries, the frequent blues, your existing thinking style, responses to people and the world around you. Through collaboration, I can offer alternative ways of thinking and responding to challenges, and help develop an effective coping toolkit.

I utilize a variety of techniques, such as EMDR, psychdynamic/relational techniques, and mindfulness to help people live fuller and happier lives.
Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and the success of therapy often depends on the "match" between client and therapist. Contact me and determine whether I might be a good fit for you. I work with individuals in a collaborative manner who are feeling stuck, sad, anxious, overwhelmed with changes in their lives or who are struggling in relationships. I most often focus on issues related to depression, anxiety, adjustment/life transitions, relationship problems, trauma and abuse, self-esteem and body image.

In addition to listening to understand, validating feelings, and respecting lived experience, I connect individuals with resources and use approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness to help them reach their goals.
Although most of my experience has been with teens and young adults, I am open to meeting with clients of all ages and genders. Before becoming a social worker, I was a high school teacher for 23 years and worked as a social worker in a therapeutic school. I am particularly interested in supporting adoptees, sexual assault survivors, young people with learning differences, and LGBTQ+ youth as they heal from loss or trauma, discover their strengths, and construct an authentic identity. I have also run support groups for adoptees, trans/nonbinary teens, and parents of TGN teens.

To me, counseling is about management; management of relationships with others, the relationship you have with yourself, management of anxiety and everyday stressors. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I incorporate a variety of treatment modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing. However, I take an eclectic approach to understanding each individual client by utilizing Adlerian Theory in addition to CBT. I also believe that physical health has strong implications for mental health and it is important to treat both.

I am a down to Earth counselor, who uses mindfulness techniques and spirituality to empower clients to beat the odds.
Life starts to beat us down and burn us out. We find ourselves frustrated, irritated, and confused how to move forward. Friends and family that we relied on have run out of energy for us. We can't help it, but we're pushing them away. How can we overcome this struggle without losing those closest to us, without losing ourselves? The stress of life: work, school, family and this world at large can sometimes feel overwhelimg, leading to anxiety, mood and relationship problems or drinking and smoking too much.

In addition to extensive clinical training, in trauma, child development, families, and adult psychology, I have more than 20,000 hours of experience teaching and practicing mindfulness and meditation.
My work is to help you clearly identify both the situation or problem you wish to change and the factors that led to this point. I can help you develop a healthy process for navigating life's transitions and for sustaining good relationships and alliances. I have decades of experience in this. But part of my helping my clients is awareness of my own process for growth and change. I have developed and tested a sure sense of what skills and support my clients need to flourish in relationships, family, school, and work. I also offer affordable in-person support and skills groups for parents and for adults on the spectrum.

I also use mindfulness techniques, parts work, and a person-centered, strength-based approach.
I enjoy working with clients who want to get to the root of their struggles. These clients would like to gain insight into their symptoms, something difficult that has happened to them or to explore cycles and patterns that aren’t serving them. The clients I see often have attended therapy in the past. The clients I see also often present with attachment-based traumas, symptoms of post-traumatic stress, and difficulties in their personal and work relationships.

Together, we detangle the complex mind and misconceptions about ADHD to develop a path that embraces your authenticity, strengths, and creating stepping-stone goals that fit your toolbox! Because we all learn differently, we support an integrative approach using mindfulness , creative expression, and worksheets to explore what works best for you.
Welcome to the ADHD Club! You may be reading this because you are trying to find a provider who actually understands the abstract mind of ADHD. Besides the typical symptoms of lack of focus and difficulty sitting still, you may also be experiencing feelings of being too intense around others, brain fog, job hopping, not feeling smart enough or ‘lazy,' procrastinating tasks, and the inner critic that causes shame and guilt. But what if I told you having ADHD is a gift? As an Art Therapist, I have taken multiple trainings on ADHD and Giftedness, specializing in mentoring ADHD adults and family support for children and adolescents.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
