Do you ever wish that life felt more fulfilling? Does it ever feel like you have a hard time knowing who you are, what you are feeling, or what you need? Do you ever wish that you felt more connected with others, and less isolated? There are times in life when we just feel "stuck," and have a hard time finding our way out. Many things can come along in life that get us off the track that we want to be on, whether it be depression, anxiety , grief, or hurtful events from our past.

It is my premise that states of mental confusion, depression, anxiety , upset and dissatisfaction with life and our relationships result from internal conflicts leading to a sense that things are not working out in our lives, at times without really knowing why.
Deciding to call a therapist and reach out for support with life's challenges requires courage and a leap of faith in your self. Your desire to end your suffering is where this healing journey begins. Your call or email is the first step. If you are reading this, the time is now. I understand the human condition, the trepidation about going to therapy and the place you are in life right now. I am here for you. Know that aside from decades of professional training as a therapist, I have also been a client for my own personal growth and healing.

Life starts to beat us down and burn us out. We find ourselves frustrated, irritated, and confused how to move forward. Friends and family that we relied on have run out of energy for us. We can't help it, but we're pushing them away. How can we overcome this struggle without losing those closest to us, without losing ourselves? The stress of life: work, school, family and this world at large can sometimes feel overwhelimg, leading to anxiety , mood and relationship problems or drinking and smoking too much.

I love working with people who really want to learn how to better manage and improve their emotional health and happiness. We spend less time looking backward and more time moving forward. They develop skills that master the present and their future. My clients represent many age groups. They have many types of issues: anxiety , depression, poor self-esteem. under assertiveness, trauma, abuse, relationship problems and many more. Of course they want tools to ward off these problems. But most importantly, my ideal clients want real know-how. They want specifics, a clear roadmap that will lead them to flourish on their own.

To me, counseling is about management; management of relationships with others, the relationship you have with yourself, management of anxiety and everyday stressors. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I incorporate a variety of treatment modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing. However, I take an eclectic approach to understanding each individual client by utilizing Adlerian Theory in addition to CBT. I also believe that physical health has strong implications for mental health and it is important to treat both.

Sadness, anger and anxiety are universal experiences; it's when we can't move through them that they begin to define our lives. Getting stuck in a cycle of negative thought and feeling keeps us from reaching our potential. It doesn’t have to feel "strange" sitting down and talking to someone about your life, your feelings and your problems. This Must Be The Place (A Life Counseling Experience) is a private therapy practice, built in the spirit of offering a casual, comfortable, non-clinical setting for people to develop a resource in gaining perspective on their lives, moods and relationships.

I specialize in individuals experiencing anxiety and depression.
Continually feeling sad, anxious, or hopeless can make you feel like this cycle in your life will never end. Feeling stuck, numb, or helpless can feel downright frustrating some days. Racing thoughts and negative thoughts seem to take up continual space in your head that just won't turn off - "I'm not good enough," "Is this person judging me right now?" "Everyone is looking at me," "I'm so exhausted from my own thoughts," "I screwed up again." You may even be wondering what kind of life you will have in the future if you are continually feeling stressed, anxious, or upset.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
