Continually feeling sad, anxious, or hopeless can make you feel like this cycle in your life will never end. Feeling stuck, numb, or helpless can feel downright frustrating some days. Racing thoughts and negative thoughts seem to take up continual space in your head that just won't turn off - "I'm not good enough," "Is this person judging me right now?" "Everyone is looking at me," "I'm so exhausted from my own thoughts," "I screwed up again." You may even be wondering what kind of life you will have in the future if you are continually feeling stressed, anxious, or upset.

disorders, obsessive-compulsive problems, suicidal tendencies, chronic pain/illness, and drug/alcohol problems.
Finding a caring, dedicated therapist to help you with your psychological or physical difficulties is important. One who is also experienced, skilled and knowledgeable is even more beneficial to your success. Your time and energy are valuable, and I avoid dwelling on directionless talk; focusing, instead, on developing effective actions and solutions. My sessions are two hours as I have found that to be more effective than a single hour. In helping you I draw on a wide range of rich, creative therapeutic approaches, including behavioral and cognitive therapies, hypnosis, EMDR, as well as methods derived from other healing practices.

It is my premise that states of mental confusion, depression,
anxiety

I understand the human condition, the trepidation about going to therapy and the place you are in life right now. I am here for you. Know that aside from decades of professional training as a therapist, I have also been a client for my own personal growth and healing.

I offer individual therapy for
anxiety
, depression, adjustment concerns, grief and loss, and life transitions, and couples therapy.
Have you ever felt, "Why is this happening to me, I don't know who I am anymore!" Constant worrying, low mood, relational challenges, and life transitions can wear you down. Simultaneously, navigating multiple cultural contexts can challenge your values and world views, often creating dissonance about who you are. Within the mindful space of therapy, I can help you examine the nature of your worries, the frequent blues, your existing thinking style, responses to people and the world around you. Through collaboration, I can offer alternative ways of thinking and responding to challenges, and help develop an effective coping toolkit.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
