I am Certified in addictions,National certifications in counseling and Specialities in PTSD , which when untreated , can lead to
substance use
, eating disorders and other self destructive behaviors.
I am passionate about helping those who suffer with mental health and dual disorders. My approach is empathetic and compassion first, with the goal of helping my clients overcome the obstacles in their lives that are inhibiting them from achieving fulfillment in life. No two clients are alike, therefore I treat each person's needs as I partner with them to heal the body, mind and spirit. My method is eclectic whether I am seeing you individually or in group , I believe everyone is capable of healing; as a therapist, it is my job to help guide each person on their own, personal journey toward healing and growth.

I am currently offering Recovery Coaching to individuals who are working on Mental Health and/or
Substance Use
challenges. Coaching assists a person with creating a pathway to move forward for personal or professional growth. Coaching can help you identify self-limiting beliefs and behaviors that may be preventing you from moving forward. Coaching is not therapy or counseling and there may be times that I will require a person to also connect with therapy when that additional support is necessary.

In practice since 2007, I work with those who experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief, have encountered trauma, engage in
substance use
, disordered eating, self-harming behaviors and relational conflict.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, it is my goal in partnering with clients in navigating through life's twists and turns, being a guide towards a middle path of acceptance and change. My focus is to empower clients to transform coping strategies into skills of daily living, identify and release themselves from self-destructive patterns that led them to treatment, doing so in an environment that encourages growth and development.

I am a licensed therapist who sees individuals with mental health and/or
substance use
issues. When I began studying social work its philosophy resonated deeply with me as strengths-based with dignity for all. Social justice issues have recently been occupying a more prominent (long overdue) role in many conversations; I support the dismantling of systems of oppression in its many forms, and am supportive to clients if they choose to engage with these topics, whether or not they wish to bring them to the therapy space.

I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and couples who are going through transitions, experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and/or who are troubled by substance abuse. I also see many people who have chronic syndromes such as autoimmune disorders. I have a collaborative approach and a conversational style, and provide a safe and confidential place where people can share their story. I see psychotherapy as an opportunity to develop greater self awareness and skills to improve relationships, and to enhance coping and decision making skills so that they are in keeping with the client's values and goals.

Skeptical about therapy or that things can change? I was too, before I saw a therapist myself. I too have experienced the societal stressors and family life issues and come to this work eager to empower my clients that you too can experience sustainable happiness. Do you over function, not feel good enough, feel stuck, or feel misunderstood? Do you wish you could say what you really feel versus what comes out when you are upset or frustrated? Are you or anyone else concerned with your drug or alcohol use, not understanding why? Would you like to be able to see the patterns you have been stuck in, so that you can find a better way?

My therapeutic approach is informed by my background in meditation, Eastern contemplative philosophy, and evolutionary psychology. I work with clients to establish a treatment plan that is uniquely sensitive to their particular clinical needs and concerns. Some of the most common techniques I employ focus on the important relationship between body and mind; these experiential, somatic, and cognitive interventions allow for critical shifts in perspective that promote meaningful and enduring behavioral change.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
