My therapeutic approach is informed by my background in meditation, Eastern contemplative philosophy, and evolutionary psychology. I work with clients to establish a treatment plan that is uniquely sensitive to their particular clinical needs and concerns. Some of the most common techniques I employ focus on the important relationship between body and mind; these experiential, somatic, and cognitive interventions allow for critical shifts in perspective that promote meaningful and enduring behavioral change.

I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and couples who are going through transitions, experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and/or who are troubled by substance abuse. I also see many people who have chronic syndromes such as autoimmune disorders. I have a collaborative approach and a conversational style, and provide a safe and confidential place where people can share their story. I see psychotherapy as an opportunity to develop greater self awareness and skills to improve relationships, and to enhance coping and decision making skills so that they are in keeping with the client's values and goals.

Psychotherapy helps individuals, couples , and families develop skills to manage stress effectively and work through challenging life circumstances. I utilize an individualized approach based on each person's needs, abilities, and interests using talk therapy and specific interventions that decrease nervous system dysregulation and anxiety. I focus on improving relationships by enhancing communication, conflict resolution skills, and emotional expression. Therapy also includes an exploration of patterns of behavior that lead to feeling "stuck", and increasing meaningful or purposeful behaviors that are more fulfilling.

My approach to counseling starts with our relationship .
You want to break generational cycles and set a new path for yourself. Your loved one is lost in addiction or suffering acute mental illness and you need a little support. You've experienced a loss and want to make sense of life without this person. You want to do your best in life but need to learn to do it without experiencing total burnout. You want to live the values you claim and be a little more consistent and authentic in how you live. We can work together to help you connect the dots in your life to show where your responses come from, and how to adapt them to live life how you really want to.

I am passionate about helping those who suffer with mental health and dual disorders. My approach is empathetic and compassion first, with the goal of helping my clients overcome the obstacles in their lives that are inhibiting them from achieving fulfillment in life. No two clients are alike, therefore I treat each person's needs as I partner with them to heal the body, mind and spirit. My method is eclectic whether I am seeing you individually or in group , I believe everyone is capable of healing; as a therapist, it is my job to help guide each person on their own, personal journey toward healing and growth.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
