I believe in meeting you where you are at emotionally--whatever is the most pressing issue on your heart, there we can begin the work together. By doing so, I hope to companion you in your journey from surviving to thriving. I believe that we, as humans, can learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow. Emotional pain can be both a terrible and terrific teacher. With developing coping skills and techniques, painful experiences can foster resiliency and character to help us survive and thrive.

If you are on this page you know that life has its challenges There is suffering. Each of us in our own way is working to rise above our pain. For each of us these challenges are different. Some of us struggle with anxiety, others depression, some struggle to find love, others to end it. There are challenging relationships, children, work. Perhaps more difficult there is: death, loss, trauma, perhaps psychiatric or chronic medical illness. There is no shame in struggle. This is being human. It is also human to overcome this suffering, and create a life that reflects your deepest hopes, embodies courage, feels peaceful.

There are seasons in life when we no longer recognize ourselves in the mirror of our relationships, our bodies, or the roles we have carried for others. I work with women, men and couples who feel disconnected from desire, intimacy, vitality, or emotional connection—particularly during periods of midlife transition, relationship change, burnout, or menopause. My approach integrates psychotherapy, sex therapy, attachment theory, and sensory awareness to help clients move beyond survival mode and reconnect with a deeper sense of embodiment, confidence, pleasure, and relational authenticity.

As a therapist, I see each of my clients as unique individuals—beautifully complex and full of potential—not as a diagnosis or a label. I believe we are all shaped by our environments and early experiences, and the ways we've learned to survive often reflect remarkable resilience. Yet, over time, those very survival strategies can become barriers to connection, joy, presence, and personal growth.

Counseling is an opportunity to sit back with an objective support to explore problematic areas of your life and work towards making it more managable and fulfilling. Whether you are experiencing a diagnosable disorder, difficulties in responding to life stressors, challenges with communicating with others or find yourself feeling stuck, talk therapy has been shown to be a highly effective option in improving your life. I count myself very fortunate to have a vocation that I love and am regularly amazed at the inner resources that clients have proven capable of drawing upon to improve their relationships and their lives.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
