I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 40 years of experience in the mental health field. I provide a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their needs and overcome barriers to their emotional wellness. As an honorably discharged Army veteran who served in Vicenza, Italy, my military service exposed me to world travel, women's issues, and military stressors, which motivated me to become a therapist. This, combined with my professional experience, allows me to guide and support a wide variety of clients.

Many individuals who appear to function well nonetheless experience considerable emotional pain. Some suffer in silence, burdened by shame over being unable to "get over it" or "stop feeling sorry for themselves." Others find themselves stuck in self-defeating patterns. Despite a longing for close relationships, they continually alienate others and end up in powerful loneliness. Both groups sense that life is slipping away from them.
With perseverance and a willingness to risk opening up, a person can shed these crippling patterns and find greater satisfaction in both relationships and in work.

Life can be hard sometimes. Just when you think that things are going well, anxiety and depression can strike at a moment's notice, leaving you feeling lost, confused, and not sure where to turn. Your mood begins to sink, as you try desperately to stay afloat, only to face more adversity with each tug. You begin to cast judgment on yourself, lose hope, and fill your mind with self-deprecating banter. Health problems - old and new - may complicate the picture, leaving you feeling even more vulnerable to life's misfortunes.

I have an egalitarian approach; we partner together to give you the support needed to make whatever changes you are seeking in your life.

You are facing a significant life challenge. Maybe it's the death of an important person, or the end of a relationship, or simply a natural life change. Possibly it is another type of challenge, such as recovery from addiction or trauma. Maybe your child is experiencing their own difficulties and you want to help them, but you aren't sure how. You have questions and concerns: Is what I'm feeling ok? How do I best help and support myself and/or my child? How will I re-make my life? What does healing mean to me ... and who am I as I undertake that process? Your questions are valid, and exploring them could be helpful.

The growing sense of fear, anxiety and depression has increased and the work now is to figure out how to heal and self regulate by learning how we got here. To stop feeling guilty, embarrassed and ashamed in our lives and instead joy. We all start out driven to create our best life. We set goals, timelines, but somehow it never seems to be enough. We never feel enough. Finding happiness and contentment seems to be a mystery that we have lost in our relationships. We instead worry about our family and what we are modeling as a loving relationship and life. We need more and yet nothing feels satisfying and as if we are alone.

What if your best life is just a phone call away? What would you be willing to do??? Don't let guilt, shame, heart aches, or betrayal hold you back any longer. Live long enough and you or someone you know can experience any of these issues. Experiencing any of these circumstances can leave you feeling loss, helpless, hopeless and stuck. Unresolved hurts from our past or present can keep us trapped or disillusioned that life can never get better. My name is Valerie Latney and I would be honored to journey with you into well being.

My style is open, authentic and warm. Together, we will discover what is present for you in the here-and-now, explore the underlying issues & repeating themes, and tap into your innate healing power so you can live a more full and satisfying life.
