Are you willing to get to know yourself better? Are you willing to learn more about why you do the things you do, to be thoughtful about yourself? Are you willing to change? Are you willing to accept that some changes come easier than others? If so, I will listen and assist you with this. Sometimes it is a matter of learning simple techniques and other times it is a matter of getting to know yourself better, gaining a new perspective, and making new choices by experimenting with new or other ideas and behaviors to see what works for you now.

You essentially agree to be challenged, to relive your trauma, and to give your anxieties over to someone else to hold.
My ideal client would be ready for a challenge. Someone who wants their worldview expanded, prepared to find internal and external connection with the world. My ideal client would be someone who also wants their race, sexuality, or gender affirmed by their clinician.

Many clients report life-changing results after only a few EMDR sessions of processing traumatic memories.
Though I am not currently accepting new clients, other therapists at my center are have openings. Trauma, addiction, and loss can disrupt one's life - and often require professional help. Together, we can process the fueling factors of addiction, emotional pain, or relationship issues. While many therapists claim to be ' trauma-informed', my practice, the Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy, revolves entirely around trauma work. I've been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress - the highest status in the academy.

The work that I do with clients involves helping them to heal from racial and identity-based trauma, experiences of gun violence, and trauma and abuse related to religion and spirituality.
At the Lotus Center for Wellness and Healing, the focus is on you… the human, the individual, the person sharing space with me. Historically, Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and gender expansive (LGBTQIA+) folks have experienced oppression and marginalization that can make one feel isolated, misunderstood, and without choice. Racial and identity-based trauma can have lasting effects on a person without them knowing the significant impact.

I am a dedicated, interactive, and skilled grief, trauma-focused, and strengths-based therapist.
My goal in working with you is to hear your story, patiently help you make sense of your confusion and pain, help you create unique coping skills, and build a preferred life worth living. Years ago I worked with cancer patients and their families at a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in South Carolina. Their situations were varied and complex, their physical and emotional pain was deep. As they talked about their pain, hopelessness, worthlessness, loss, anxiety, and uncertainty, together we made sense of their confusion. Likewise, as we work together, I will help you and your challenges in the same caring and skillful way.

My ideal population is adults struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress, or substance use - however I believe that everyone deserves to have a therapist who is dedicated to them, and I would never turn away a client unless their needs were out of my scope of practice. My ideal client is someone who is motivated for therapy and is willing to learn.

As a trauma therapist and embodied human, I recognize the importance of bottom-up therapies, working from our visceral responses to facilitate healing and change.
I enjoy working with clients who want to get to the root of their struggles. These clients would like to gain insight into their symptoms, something difficult that has happened to them or to explore cycles and patterns that aren’t serving them. The clients I see often have attended therapy in the past. The clients I see also often present with attachment-based traumas, symptoms of post-traumatic stress, and difficulties in their personal and work relationships.

I use relational, anti-oppression & trauma-informed approaches in group and individual modalities to help people improve their lives.
Sometimes it's difficult to identify why you're feeling out of sorts. This can be an individual or interpersonal experience. For over 30 years, I've helped adults regain a sense of purpose in their work and personal relationships through individual and group psychotherapy. This is especially true for folks who feel silenced or unheard. I can help you find your voice! But the most helpful thing to do is to talk to a few therapists about their approaches and see if you connect with them. I'm happy to discuss how group or individual therapy can help you achieve more satisfaction in life.

Do you feel overwhelmed both mentally and physically? Are you not sure what the feelings that you're having are, why you are having them, or don't know how to cope with them? I currently help adolescents, and young adults learn about anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and trauma. I would love to also branch out and work with adults as well as the current population I work with, but just haven't got the chance yet! I also help clients identify where these uncomfortable feelings could be coming from and ways that they can manage those feelings to be able to increase their quality of life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
