"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."Lao-tzu You have just taken the first step of that journey. Life presents us with many challenges along the way. We may experience loss and significant changes in our lives. These challenges may present themselves in the many relationships we have with others, in our jobs, at school, and in our families. These challenges may affect our moods, cause us worry and despair, hamper our spirits, sadden us, confuse us and result in either our stumbling off course or losing a sense of direction. Therapy can be most helpful in getting you back on track and continuing your journey.

Together, we can look at the stress in your life/
relationship
and help you make sense of it.
Tired. Irritable. Unmotivated. Disconnected. Each can be a sign that stress is taking a toll on you. Life can feel out of our control and unpredictable— 2 main ingredients for anxiety. It gets overwhelming! You might feel like the issues in your life or
relationship
aren't "big enough" for counseling, but it's important to know that anything holding you back from having a full & satisfying life is worthy of your attention. We all need support.

Additionally, I provide counseling to
couples

Sometimes our child has needs that can effect the entire family system. I focus on providing the child direct care, and provide parents the support to keep going, to keep working toward the potential you know your child has. Specifically, if your child is having ongoing school problems, is showing oppositional behavior, or has difficulty maintaining friendships. Additionally, if your child has been diagnosed, or your questioning whether your child has Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD, AD/HD) and needs "coaching" to cope with this problem, or he/she is showing signs of anxiety or depression, or abusing alcohol or drugs.

I bring a strengths based expertise, my authentic self and humor to our
relationship
to promote trust and your healing.
Skeptical about therapy or that things can change? I was too, before I saw a therapist myself. I too have experienced the societal stressors and family life issues and come to this work eager to empower my clients that you too can experience sustainable happiness. Do you over function, not feel good enough, feel stuck, or feel misunderstood? Do you wish you could say what you really feel versus what comes out when you are upset or frustrated? Are you or anyone else concerned with your drug or alcohol use, not understanding why? Would you like to be able to see the patterns you have been stuck in, so that you can find a better way?

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
