My many years working as a psychologist have taught me that growth on any issue is possible with motivation, and that a person's strengths are key to achieving one's goals. I am every bit as attuned to an individual's gifts and coping skills, as I am to the challenges faced. I foster a safe, comfortable atmosphere as the process depends on feeling at ease to say what is on one's mind. My clients comment on my listening well and deeply, and that I have helped them make connections that are extremely valuable in identifying a path that is right for them.

Update... I am NOT taking new clients at this time. I will update my profile when slots become open. The idea of counseling can be scary. I use humor to normalize symptoms of stress and provide a comfortable environment to let go and take new supported risks. My clients come here to gain a sense of what patterns are keeping them stuck and to face what has been avoided so they can achieve greater satisfaction and fulfillment in their lives. My objective is to help bring awareness to the answers that lie within you, learn stress reduction techniques, and guide you to take supported risks that can change your life.

One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Part of our story is suffering. Emotional suffering may include anxiety, depression, grief, conflicts in relationships and trauma. For most of us, suffering is more than just one thing. As humans, we innately try to avoid suffering instead of confronting it. I want to guide you to understand, confront, and alleviate your suffering. The goal is to increase understanding of the self which leads to feelings of empowerment, courage, self-determination, hope, meaningfulness and freedom.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
