If this resonates with you & your child, my goal will be to help you to better manage these really tough behaviors & help you both grow to enjoy one another's company more fully through the use of PCIT ( Parent Child Interaction Therapy) and/or CPP (Child Parent Psychotherapy).
"It's not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, & to make your Happiness a priority. It's necessary." So often we put off the pursuit of therapy because of our busy schedules. If you, you & your partner and/or you & your child know that the time has come to care for yourselves, I'd be happy to support your doing so while working around school/work schedules, rush hour traffic, and after school activities. Like all of us, life and how I approach it shifted when the pandemic occurred. One positive takeaway for me has been being able to be a part of life-changing therapy in a way I hadn’t yet experienced, Telehealth.

Hello! My name is Maura Majcher with In The Now Counseling. My practice focuses on the issues faced by women, kids and adolescents. Life can be absolutely overwhelming. Being in survival mode can get very old. Between the demands of work, school, managing a home, caring for children and being a good partner, it can become too much to handle alone. I have years of experience working with women and children where we focus on understanding how every part of your family system plays into how you function and survive.

We all get stuck at various points in our lives and need a different perspective, fresh education, or a sounding board for our thoughts & emotions. With over a decade's worth of experience, my desire is to help others learn the tools to make the best decisions they can. For those who have a specific diagnosis, I'd like to help educate you about your challenges and advantages (yes, there can be positives too!). When we learn how our brain works, we can find solutions to overcome individual obstacles, strengthen relationships, and find a greater sense of peace.

Hello! My name is Suzie. I'm glad you're here. Life can be so complicated. We work so hard to earn a living, care for our families and take care of our households. We give so much of ourselves to our children, our employers and our communities. We try our best to be a good partner and friend, but often we find that despite all our hard work, life can take unexpected turns leaving us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, frustrated and hopeless. Relationships can become fractured, children can seem ungrateful, work is unfulfilling, and the thought of cooking one more meal or doing one more load of laundry can seem unbearable.

Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or out of control? Are your worries preventing you from doing the things you love? If so, you are not alone. Anxiety can make you feel worry, fear, anger, and shame. The good news is, you do not have to travel the road to recovery alone. There is hope and you can get better! “Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone” – Lisa Olivera.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
