I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience working with school aged youth and adults. My passion is working with children and adolescents with a specific focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques. I have seen this method work time and time again for those struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic stress, somatic disorders, familial conflict, and so much more. CBT can be applied in many situations and its effects are more profound when it can include a caregiver or
family
member. Of course, for younger children (7 and younger), methods will vary and likely include the caregiver.

Helping clients understand their
family
dynamics and childhood development, begins the process of resolving present day difficulties affecting your well-being.
My career began with an RN in nursing, followed by experience working at state psychiatric hospitals. I spent the next 12 years helping adolescents in the behavior health unit of a private hospital, while also completing an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s degree in social work. After obtaining my social work license, I worked in mental health and drug and alcohol treatment on an outpatient basis, and at the Caron Foundation. I approach clients by looking at physical, emotional and behavioral issues contributing to present struggles and specifically address relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and trauma.

I love helping people work on different relational conflicts within their
family
system. I work with kids that have experienced a divorce in their
family
and help them learn new coping skills in order to appropriately handle these new transitions in their life. I also help parents who are struggling with connecting with their children, whether young or adult, after a separation in the
family
. Divorce and separation of families is a trauma that, with some healing and cooperation, does not need to be a permanent trauma within the
family
system. I would love to help you and your
family
work through these situations.

I work from a systemic perspective, looking at your problems from the larger context of your relationships (
family
of origin to immediate
family
and friends) to address the details of your life.
If you are a couple looking for help, or if you are an adult struggling with ADHD, then I can help. I work with couples to help them move from feeling unloved, unimportant, lonely, and unheard to connecting and feeling loved, wanted, and heard. I help those with ADHD identify what causes stress and keeps them stuck. Then we work together to find ways to move forward and to address symptoms that get in the way of success and accomplishment. I work with premarital couples to help them identify potential problems and to gain skills to have strong, connected marriages. I am a certified facilitator of the Prepare/Enrich Program.

I believe that growth occurs at the edge of our comfort zone. When we become complacent and just "settle", we have cut off our opportunity for happiness. It is important to look at the big picture and identify ways to reach your goals. Together, we can discuss obstacles, concerns, patterns, and progress, whether it be related to work,
family
, relationships, trauma, addiction, etc... I have training in various areas and also utilize several different approaches so that our time together is of maximum benefit to you.

Kids and teenagers encounter new challenges every day. School, sports, activities, and
family
dynamics can lead to anxiety, stress, and even depression. They may feel overwhelmed and struggle to talk about what is going on. They may be scared, feel embarrassed, or feel unsure of who to talk about what they are feeling. You may have noticed changes in their behavior or mood as a result. I work with kids, teenagers, and families to identify and gain understanding of what has led to their struggles and collaboratively work on how to move forward. I bring a different energy to therapy.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
