What isn't talked about is repeated...In so many ways. We get stuck, whether this be specific behaviors, relationships, symptoms of anxiety or depression or substance abuse. Even, when we arrive at the awareness that we want to feel or be different. Our family experience and our experiences in our increasingly complex world, shape, without our permission, how we think and feel. Understanding the meaning we made of our experiences and the thinking and feeling habits that developed, can begin to bring relief and reduce or eliminate the symptoms that motivated us to seek help.

I enjoy working with clients experiencing anxiety , depression, and grief and loss, as well as with women with perinatal mood disorders, such as postpartum depression and anxiety .
People can experience dark days at times, where the future feels uncertain, and everyday routines become difficult. Perhaps you feel stuck in what seems like an endless cycle of anxiety or depression, need to experience healing from past hurts or traumas, or are experiencing a painful life transition. Many people have insight into their problems, but struggle to find the ability to get “unstuck.” My desire is to help you find a new path, break down old habits, and discover new tools to cope. I have worked in the field of counseling for over fifteen years, helping people of various ages and backgrounds.

I believe that a good therapist doesn't "fix" you, because no one really needs "fixing." My goal is to create a supportive environment to help you express yourself and learn the skills necessary to handle whatever life might throw your way. Whether you're experiencing depression, anxiety , or are just going through a rough time, there are a variety of strategies we can use to get you back to enjoying life. In my sessions, I like to utilize cognitive behavioral techniques to help you feel more confident in your ability to handle life's stressors.

I've grounded my practice in Anxiety / Depression/ Trauma recovery/resiliency techniques to best center our work.
We all have a story to tell. We are made of thousands of them– from the haiku to the novel. Whether you feel like you’re spinning in circles or out of ideas, therapy can offer a fresh perspective through a clear lens. It can help wipe the fog off your glasses with the help of an objective outlook. You may feel like you are seeing Signs. Or hearing Sirens. Maybe from a direct Trauma. Or things are manifesting subtly throughout the fabric of your relationships. Whatever it is, you don't need to manage Your Story alone. You are worth it.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience working with school aged youth and adults. My passion is working with children and adolescents with a specific focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques. I have seen this method work time and time again for those struggling with anxiety , depression, chronic stress, somatic disorders, familial conflict, and so much more. CBT can be applied in many situations and its effects are more profound when it can include a caregiver or family member. Of course, for younger children (7 and younger), methods will vary and likely include the caregiver.

I know how difficult it can be to talk about painful and vulnerable moments in our lives; how intense it can feel to experience uncomfortable emotions. It is important to have someone who is not going to judge or criticize us when we are going through tough times. I value the importance of creating a comforting and open environment that will allow you the opportunity to better understand yourself and grow towards a happier, more fulfilling future. I believe in collaboratively working together to find ways to manage stress, initiate change, or cope with constant worry, intense sadness, and overwhelming anxiety .

I strive daily to take a compassionate approach while working with individuals and families, adolescents, and adults. I have experience collaborating in treatment with individuals with mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety , and trauma and I work with individuals who are 17 years and older. I believe a significant part of the therapeutic process is building a therapeutic relationship with my client. Being able to practice this healthy relationship in therapy can help to improve other relationships outside of therapy.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
