I work at a group practice on the Main Line offering individual,
couples
, and family therapy.
The process of finding a psychologist who is a good fit for either yourself or a family member can be overwhelming and frustrating. I make it a point to ensure that clients who reach out to me feel heard and understood. Therapy can only be effective if it is a collaborative process in which clients feel they have a say in their own treatment. I mainly practice from a cognitive-behavioral perspective (CBT), but I also use other modalities in sessions in order to best meet the needs of my clients.

I enjoy working with adolescents and adults, and maintain flexible working hours to accomodate work and school schedules. You’re working hard, wanting a good life, but you find yourself feeling dissatisfied and unfulfilled. Perhaps you’re unhappy in your
relationship
- feeling lonely, disconnected, and in a painful cycle of argument and withdrawal. Or perhaps you’re in a divorce, looking to start a new life but instead feeling overwhelmed by hostile communications from a difficult ex while also caring for anxious children stuck in the middle of their parents’ battles. And so many of us are feeling worried about the well-being of our loved ones, finances, and what the future holds.

Have you "disappeared" in order to be in a
relationship
? Do you feel "selfish" considering your own needs and wants? Would you like to stand up for yourself AND still be in
relationship
? Is the phrase, "I matter, too," one you want to believe? If so, the time has come to create effective ways to move into
relationship
with Self and Others. The truth is that each of us matters equally. When we live from a place of mutual importance, we honor boundaries, make decisions for ourselves, and are responsible for the only person we can truly manage, our self.

I realize the
relationship
I create with my clients impacts their path forward.
Welcome. The choice to take action towards creating positive change in your life is a big step. I bring twenty-five years of holistic experience to our work, skills that combine traditional therapies, coaching strategies, and the integration of mindfulness/meditation from my yoga background. We often work to reduce emotional reactivity, utilize breathing and relaxation skills to help you to be more present in your life, as well as helping you to slow things down in stressful situations. You develop greater awareness of thoughts/feelings, as well as greater self-understanding related to old patterns that may have kept you stuck.

Hello! My name is Michaela. I understand therapy as a loving container to voice our innermost thoughts, feelings and experiences and the therapeutic
relationship
as a powerful agent of change. My background in family therapy helps to support individuals and
couples
seeking to make change in their lives. I feel privileged to work with parents of young children who wish to lean into their roles as both compassionate caregivers and boundary spanners. Between the parenting intention to share a kind correction and the real time behavior of a critical or triggered reaction, there is often traumatic material. EMDR can help with that.

Is it difficult to confront issues with your child, adolescent, college student or
partner
because anger and frustration end the interaction before anything is accomplished? Do you "walk on tiptoes" rather than start a fight? Are you worried about your teen's moodiness and 'addiction' to technology? I am a clinical psychologist with many years of experience as an individual (adult / child) and family therapist. Communication and resolution of difficult issues is the focus of treatment. Therapy concentrates on solving problems and setting goals. I firmly believe that the emotional safety provided by the therapist sets the foundation for successful work.

Concerns related to sex and intimacy are some of the most sensitive and personal. Experiencing sexual concerns, such as low sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, pelvic pain, or difficulty with orgasm no longer has to be secretive or embarrassing. Finding a therapist who is open, supportive, and has effective tools is imperative on the journey to satisfaction and pleasure. Using a Cognitive Behavioral & collaborative approach, I work with individuals or
couples
to help them further understand the concerns that effect them, their relationships, & their sexual functioning.

Do you feel stagnant or stuck? Feeling lost, overwhelmed, unfulfilled, or isolated? Do you find yourself repeating the same behaviors, even though you know they are not helping you get to where you want to be? You want things to be different with your entire being, but for whatever reason just cant seem to get there. You've turned to addictive behaviors or developed an unhealthy
relationship
with food to cope. Self sabotage and self criticism turns into a vicious cycle. You have tried therapy before, but didn't feel like you got what you needed because you were listened to but not challenged or pushed out of your comfort zone.

Now accepting clients. Many of us wrestle to find hope in our lives, move forward, or just make it through the day. Depression, anxiety,
relationship
concerns, and loss can take away motivation, causing struggle and suffering. This can change. Perhaps you're determining which life path to take or are dealing with past trauma, abuse, or painful memories. You don't have to carry this weight alone. I provide an unbiased, nonjudgmental space for adults to explore what is hindering them and overcome obstacles in healthy, ways.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
