I've been in this field for 13+ years in different roles and I've enjoyed every second. I've worked in individual's homes as a TSS/MT, in office settings for many years as a 1/1 Therapist, and also in an after school program for kids with Autism as a teacher/therapist. I love working with teens and adults of all ages. I am open to working with any struggle/diagnosis. I specialize in anxiety/panic attacks, ADHD, and Autism but have worked with individuals with varying struggles as well.

Accepting a few new clients for the first time in several years. Trauma, addiction, and loss can disrupt one's life - and often require professional help. Together, we can process the fueling factors of addiction, emotional pain, or relationship issues. While many therapists claim to be 'trauma-informed', my practice, the Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy, revolves entirely around trauma work. I've been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress - the highest status in the academy.

Whether you’re facing personal challenges, caregiver stress, health-related stress, or relationship conflict, therapy offers a space to explore what’s happening, build on strengths, and work with difficult emotions more skillfully. The work is collaborative and reflective, grounded in a validating, present-centered environment. When relationships are involved, attention is given to the patterns that keep people stuck—and how to shift them toward clearer communication and repair. The aim is a life that feels meaningful and aligned with what matters most.

For most people taking the step to start working on therapeutic goals can be intimidating. I pride myself in utilizing a collaborative approach to treatment that meets clients where they are while also celebrating the progress they make along the way. I firmly believe that within each person lies the key to improving their own mental wellbeing. I help clients find strength within themselves by unearthing their personal key and then apply it to their life. As a therapist and supervisor I focus on family, couples and children's therapy, especially working with neurodivergence and the full autism spectrum using evidence-based models.

I help people with anxiety, depression, grief, divorce recovery, trauma, imposter syndrome, shame, guilt, and other issues life presents. Problems can feel large, like a two-ton boulder. Therapy is a place to unpack what you can’t share with people you know. You'll develop the tools you need to move that boulder out of the way so you can move forward. Life is complicated and it can get heavy and messy. Things can seem like they've been turned upside down. Some situations feel like a funhouse mirror and you want out of the funhouse but you don’t know how to find the exit.

You’re stuck in anxiety or OCD cycles—what-ifs, intrusive thoughts, checking, mental reviewing, reassurance seeking. Maybe it’s scrupulosity/religious OCD, health anxiety, or perfectionism, and it’s draining your joy, faith, and relationships. You want evidence-based help and, if you’re a Christian, space to wrestle with God, doubt, and guilt so you can quiet your mind, live your values, and feel like yourself again.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I am a believer that counseling is a place where an individual can work to understand themselves (developing self-awareness), manage themselves (managing mind-body and true self) and relationship to the environment. My job is to help you in your journey of personal growth. Every person has unique and valuable skills within them. Our goal in therapy is to find what you want to change, what those unique skills are, and to work toward your goals. Often times people come to therapy because they feel disconnected and struggling. Our therapy will be a place for compassion/acceptance.

In his 40-years' experience counseling individuals and families, Steph believes that a safe, trusting, and supportive environment is critical to confronting and addressing self-destructive behaviors and patterns. Although understanding how the past affects and shapes us is important, Steph's primary approach is to empower each person to accept that they have the ability and inner grace to create change, to move forward, and to decide upon a new pathway towards a more fulfilling present. His philosophy is that therapy is a journey with a clear destination... a stronger, empowered, and happier self.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
