As a practicing, licensed therapist for the past 14 years, I have encouraged and supported many people to become their best selves. I have worked with people who were on very different journeys; with extensive experience with those who struggle with anxiety, depression, those who have experienced some kind of trauma in their life, who have self-esteem issues, grief and loss struggles, as well as substance
abuse
issues. My style of therapy draws from modalities such as cognitive- behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, while I emphasize active listening and the implementation of a person centered, strengths- based approach.

Are you or a loved one feeling overwhelmed? Are you/they struggling to make sense of and/or manage emotions? Emotions are natural, but like anything they can get in the way of you living your best life. I assist my clients in understanding and managing their emotions, using their natural strengths. In addition, I also take a culturally sensitive approach. I find that this often provides incite into the different struggles my clients may be facing, and has an impact on the different solutions to those struggles. I have been trained to be sensitive to the nuances in cultures, and rather than try to change them, I work with them.

Everyone seeks love and happiness in their lives, but for many of us, this requires work. Although being intimately attached to another can bring healing and joy, sometimes we begin to question our relationships. For over 38 years, I have been helping couples restore those relationships that have hit a rough patch. It is my goal to help couples find their way back to each other by empowering them with the tools to understand each other and heal themselves and their relationships.

The world we live in is complicated and ever-changing, and the patterns we develop to address the challenges of life often cease to work for us...in fact, no strategy for living, relating to others, or to ourselves can ever work optimally forever. A depression, a personal life crisis, marital upsets and family conflicts are painful but often signal an important opportunity for self-reflection, assessment of "where I've been" in life, and the chance to create a new pathway for moving forward. This is where an expert therapist can be of value.

Have you had these thoughts? “This is stupid.” “I can’t do this.” “Everything is terrible.” How about emotions like guilt, shame, or anger? What are the ways you tried to wish them away or pretend they’re not happening to you? You might even be having them as you read this. I have had these things happen to me too. What I have learned is that a vital, rich life has room for those thoughts and feelings. You and I can't stop them from happening. We can change what we do when they show up. My top priority is working with you as a team on taking action that matters and moving towards a more meaningful life.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
